There’s a commercial that’s been going on tv for a couple of weeks that really annoys me.
It’s by Tidningskungen (the newspaper king) and goes like this “För henne: Elle. För honom: Allt om historia” (For her: Elle. For him: Everything about history). Excuse me but WTF?! Since when is history typically manly?! What the commercial basicly is saying is that women read about fashion and celebrities while men – the educated ones – read about history.
I hate this type of gender generalization. Do things have to be for HIM or HER? Do girl toys have to be pink and boy toys blue? Can’t things be for PEOPLE? I belive men and women are more alike than we think. Much of what we conscider female and male are not things we were born to be and like but things we were taught to be and like.
I hate gender roles. I hate being treated differently just because I’m a woman. When I wanted to use a band saw at a job I had the manager wanted another man to help me with it. Even though just a minute ago I had told him that I took furniture design classes in high school and had been using a band saw since I was sixteen. Plus the fact that my dad is a carpenter. I got a tool set when I was six for crying out loud! Would he have insisted on someone helping me out if I were a man? Probably not. He was in his fifties and probably had these old ideas that carpentry is for men and women are good at other things like embroidering and cooking. Jeez, this isn’t the 19th century!

Sexism definitely still exists in its most blatant and subtle forms. We’ve moved forward quite a bit in some parts of the world but there’s still many preconceived notions of what men and women should or shouldn’t think, act, or want.
I believe youre right. Alot of people consider ladies “feminist” if we speak out about something like that, but the world isnt as big as it seems and ALL humans are like wether they like to see us equal or not. The US presidential election is enough proof in the pudding for any blind person to see. Women are getting respect now that there were 2 in the presidential election, but I think females should have been getting more respect before even then. Geesh must we always be 2 steps ahead to get recognized for something more than just a pretty face & nice body?!
im with you. there were similar commercials in the us with hardees (mcdonalds wannabees) that were aimed at men that pissed me and the lot of women off.
Yea, I completely agree. Although we live in a time in which its completely absurd that people would even still consider gender roles in society, it still happens. I think there is definitely some stuff that will never change in people’s eyes.
I had that happen quite often at work. Apparently, because I am a women, I know nothing about fixing errors on my own computer, or am able to do any repairs on certain items. I just find it interesting that there are loads of people that find because I am a female I am unable to know how to use tools and such also. I was raised by my Dad my entire life. I go camping, and love watching cars go around a dirt track. If I could I’d rather go on a date by swimming in a lake than go to some place fancy.
People just never learn.
Now that sucks. This whole patriarch thing happened a few centuries back, and this generation we have now is very different. Psh. I hate it when men are prioritized over women. We’re all equal individuals and we also have strengths too, just like men.

Yeah I agree, I love those history mags! but I love reading ELLE aswell, as do many guys I know! ELLE is great
On the other hand, I understand those old men not thinking women can handle big tools! I know you’re good at it but I suck and even though I worked with a band saw several times a week for several months I am still scared of using it!
I hate big machines. But so do alot of males.. Gender roles are stupid.

Girls work in, Boys work out…Boys provide and Girls Take care and all… It’s not fair.

I know how that is… I used to work for a guy who paid girls a lower hourly wage than boys. I didn’t find out about it until a co-worker told me his salary… and I worked TWICE as hard as he did!
