Tv and me

I thought about tv-shows and how many popular tv-shows I don’t follow, like or never watched. One example is “Sex and the city” which is extremely popular. I’ve seen a couple of episodes but it’s not for me for one simple reason. I can’t relate to it, at all. Well it’s about a group of 30 something career women in New York. I’m 25, live in a small town and make less than 1000$ a month.  ”Friends” on the other hand is a show I love, and can relate to. Well at least the first seasons in which they’re single, in their mid twenties and stuck with dead end jobs. Just like me! The later seasons where they get careers, get married and have kids aren’t as great. Still love the show though because of the great humour.

And then there’s…. “One Tree Hill”. What can I say besides no fucking way! I do like a couple of tv-shows aimed at teenagers but those are only old shows like “My So-called Life”. And of course “Freaks and Geeks” because it’s focusing on well… freaks and geeks instead of hot, popular rich kids. I can’t relate to people like that because I’ve never been one of those people. I was one of the “art freaks” in high school. Or “flumestet” as we’re called in Sweden.

Another show I don’t watch is “Lost”. I think I might like that one but I’ve only seen a couple of episodes and it’s not really one of those shows which you can start follow without having watched all episodes. The plot is way too complicated for that.

Yet another show I don’t watch is “Ugly Betty”. A show focusing on people in the fashion industry? No thank you. The fact that Betty is a great character isn’t enough.

And then of course there’s the hospital shows like “Grey’s Anatomy”, “House” and “Scrubs”. What can I say? I’ve never been much for hospital shows.

Something I do like is criminal shows like “NCIS”, “Bones”, “The mentalist” and “Lie To Me”. The old school bang bang-car chase-macho action-shows I don’t like. I’m not interested in seeing the police in wild shootouts. What’s interesting is the investigations behind the crimes. Of these shows “NCIS” is my favourite because of the funny characters.

And the person who counts how many times I’ve used the word “show” in this blog post wins a prize. Nah, not really. I just realized that this is pretty poorly written but it’s 01:06 and I’m hungover. I feel like shit. Cow shit perhaps. Laters!

  1. Yeah I agree. I do watch sex and the city though, but not like I used to follow the show, I watch it with 2 of my friends wich makes the show alot better :) and Friends is of course the best!
I also watch Heroes and Lost.

  2. First of all: I am back once again ;)
Thanks for keeping my link up for so long!
And I have to agree with you on Sex and the City,I watched one episode of it and never really realised what was so great about it! NCIS is pretty nice,my sister loves to watch it and sometimes I watch it with her…my fave character is Abby ;)
The thing about the car-chase-bang-bang shows reminds me of this popular one in german TV which is called “Alarm für Cobra 11″ and mostly consists of shooting and exploding cars…I can’t see why it’s that popular ^^
    What’s left to say? Ah,I counted: 15!
    :D

  3. I hardly watch TV. When I do, it’s mostly game shows. XD

Oh yea, update your blog link you have for me! I gots my own space now (tho it’s for free), but it’s like me owning my own domain without the price! I gots MySQL/PHP, subdomains, and all of that other stuff. XD

  4. One show you should check out, im obsessed with it! True Blood ! don’t know if SVT has started to show it yet but you could torrent it. It’s about vampires and it’s well written, awesome actors and it’s sexy!

  5. Same here, I don’t really watch all the popular shows. My family watches American Idol nowadays, I sometimes watch it with them. I’ve seen a couple episodes of CSI because my sister’s always watching it. xD Other than that, I don’t really watch that much TV.

  6. I have not watched half of those shows either. I love Friends, just because it is really funny and you find yourself quoting it. I got addicted to Sex and the City late on (just before the film came out) and I can relate to it, because I want to be successful when I hit 30. I also watch Ugly Betty, because I love fashion and it reminds me of the film/book “The Devil Wears Prada”.

I am not a fan of hospital drama’s but I have watched a few episodes of Scrubs when nothing else is on. As for crime investigation shows, I love CSI, but refuse to watch anything else, because nothing else can match up to it.

  7. I’m with you on watching all the crime shows. They are just so good. I don’t watch many of those other shows you mentioned either cause it’s hard to get into them unless you have a reason to connect with the characters. Some are good though like House, because he is so ridiculously funny.

  8. I don’t have cables here in my apartment because we don’t have money for that so I have to watch my fav. shows on you tube. Mostly those are crimes and stuff like, friends or old stife like who’s the boss (don’t ask), I don’t like sex and the city.. never atched it actually an not planning too. HATE reality shows..

  9. I can’t believe you have been looking for apartments for 6 months with no luck! There are so many apartments available around here. There is a website called kijiji and there are new apartments posted in my area every single day. You should see if kijiji is used in your part of the world.

I also never got into Sex and the City. I’m pretty sure I haven’t seen a single episode from that show. I did, however, enjoy every season of Friends. It was just so funny.

I agree with you about the teen shows too. I never watched One Tree Hill, but I loved Freaks and Geeks. I was a Dawson’s Creek fan too and then I also believe Gilmore Girls would fit in that category also which was my absolute favorite tv show ever and I have every season on DVD.

I agree with you on Lost. I tried to watch it but it was just so confusing. But I don’t think it would be a show I would enjoy even if I did understand it. However, one show we disagree on is Ugly Betty. It has been my favorite show on TV since Gilmore Girls left.

Again, I agree with you on the hospital shows. I don’t like them either. I also don’t like crime shows. I do have to exclude Dexter from that though because that is a pretty awesome crime show.

  10. Hmm I’ve never really been into a lot of those shows though I must say I really love House. Its one of my favourite shows and I got hooked on watching Ugly Betty for a little while. Now I’ve stopped watching tv altogether. I really love Friends though, its got great comedy and the characters are awesome.
There’s also a really popular show called Gossip girl which everyone seems into..I actually really dislike it. Tried watching it and really a bunch of rich teens running around having sex every other minute is something that’s a bit boring.
And I also like Scrubs, its has great random moments. So I watch 3 out of all the shows you listed. Oh and I got to agree with Deanna, Dexter is a pretty good show. I loved watching it until our cable company removed the channel >_<

  11. Friends is an amazing show. Definetely my all-time favourite. I like watching “Sex and the City” too though. Wouldn’t say I can relate to their lives, but I think it’s really funny. Makes me laugh hard some of those episodes. Same with “Scrubs”. When it comes to “Lost” I’m a total newbie though. Started watching the first season a short while ago and is half-way through. I believe it’s quite good though. On the other hand I’ve heard from many how it goes completely out of hand later on and I can really imagine that even now. But meh. We’ll see.. Maybe I’ll like it till the very end anyways. ;]

  12. One of my friends was trying to get me to watch the “Confessions of a Teenage Life” or whatever, the one on ABC-Family with the redhead from Sixteen Candles whose name is purposely being blacked out of my mind. Basically, I watched about 10 minutes while on the phone with her, and I let her babble about the rest of the show while I put it on mute and watched Family Guy on [adult swim]. It was atrocious.

  13. Friends is my all-time favorite show. :) I could watch it over and over again and never get tired of it.

A close second is Felicity because I could relate to many of the characters – not what they were going through exactly but what they experienced in terms of relationships and career choices…the life lessons were great.

I started watching Lost because of my boyfriend. I ended up really liking it too but you’re right, you’d have to watch it from the beginning and follow every episode. There aren’t really any standalone episodes.

As for hospital shows, my mom and my sister love them. I grew up watching E.R. and Chicago Hope…and now we follow Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice and House, M.D.

    I like Criminal Minds, mostly because of the behavioral analysis – I guess that has to do with my Psych background. ^_^;;

  14. I don’t like hospital shows, too! But Scrubs is SOOO hilarious :D Do you have CSI (Miami/new York) in Sweden? They’re pretty cool (esp. Miami), but which police department has those kind of hightech equipment? :D

  15. It’s kinda like me loving gossip girl even though I can’t relate to the characters at all aside from being a girl and wishing I could have all of the stuff they so easily afford but I never could. Kinda ridiculous but if I only watched things I could find parallels with I don’t think I’d be watching much of anything.
