I just came to think about one of the funnier stories from my high school years.
I had this friend who had this boyfriend. My friend wanted to break up with him but first make him understand they weren’t a good couple. To scare the guy off she called in expert help. Me and two other of her more alternative friends. The five of us went to a café. Me looking like I did back then. Big black hair, wearing a plastic tiara and probably some weird clothes. My friends looked similar.
So this guy was rich, well dressed and right-wing. Me and my friends were alternative and left-wing. Of course socialism was something we discussed during the entire evening. How socialism was good and capitalism not, to be exact. I don’t remember what else we talked about but the whole point was to scare the guy off so probably something rich right-wing people aren’t interested in. After a while the guy just sat there quiet and looked more bored than I’ve ever seen anyone look.
When we went our separate ways my friend asked her boyfriend what he thought about her friends. He didn’t like us. Now that’s a shocker! She told him one of the reasons why they couldn’t be together was that she couldn’t date someone who didn’t like her friends. And so she dumped him.
I feel kinda sorry for the guy. If I had been in the same (but reversed) situation, sitting there with a bunch of right-wing people bashing my political ideas I most certainly wouldn’t be too happy with the situation. Back then I found it pretty funny though. OK, I have to admit that I still find it pretty funny. I’m a bad person.

That certainly is a creative way to blow someone off. It would have been really funny if you guys actually opened his eyes to your views and converted him!
If someone sat next to me and talked about politics I’d go crazy V_V
post pictures from when you were 14!
That kind of happened to me one time, except I wasn’t dating the guy. He liked me, but I didn’t really like him and so I invited him to my friends house. They all dressed up and acted like vampires the whole time and he got freaked out by it. I actually never heard from him again lol
Anyway, II wouldn’t want a boyfriend who didn’t like/accept my friends either. I would dump him too
That’s a really creative way of dumping someone. HAHA. Poor guy, though, having to sit through the entire conversation while you guys bash everything he believes in. LOL~
Anyway I wouldn’t like to be with someone who doesn’t like my friends either/whom my friends don’t like. Haha.
Kudos on the most creative way to dump someone. However, there is truth in this dumping – I wouldn’t date my boyfriend if he didn’t like my friends or my friends didn’t agree with him.
Hehe don’t think you’re a bad person, it’s quite a smart way. Then he didn’t feel to bad about beeing dumped I’m sure
I don’t think I would have cared if my bf’s friends had the opposite political views as I do, if they were fun otherwise. Maybe it just makes for more interesting political arguments, instead of all just agreeing with eachother.
haha it is pretty funny! When you’re not the harmed party… it is a bit mean though
But howell… what’s done is done!
AND FREAKY. You discussed socialism?? That’s the entire plot of our Filipino book now! It’s really very interesting and it had all these political views! Have you ever heard of Jose Rizal? Because the Philippines really had a turbulent history (being colonized, invaded, etc), our political and social views are very very young and sometimes radical. Very exciting discussions! hahaa
That’s really funny!
I wouldn’t feel too bad because it probably actually made it easier for him to get over being dumped. I agree with Angie — it would have been really funny if you guys had converted him to your beliefs! It might not have been too funny to your friend, though, because then her plan would have backfired.
