I remember when I first heard about 9/11

I was in year 9. For some reason I turned on the TV before I got out of bed, and got ready for school. That was not a daily routine, just had this big urge that something was wrong. I didn’t know what was happening, wondering if it was a movie or something. But I watched it live on TV when the first tower went. When we were at school we all heard about the 2nd tower falling. It was traumatic. We were scared because Australia could’ve been the next target. Freaky.

I was sitting in my sixth grade math class learning about geometry or something, and then one of our assistant principals comes in and pulls aside my teacher. They both look absolutely horrified, and everyone starts whispering. Then the principal turns and states, solemnly and clearly, “The Twin Towers and Pentagon have just been attacked.” Everyone immediately abandoned math and sat around to talk about it for another few hours.

Oh god, I remember exactly where I was when 9/11 happened. I remember not even knowing what the twin towers were!

Ah, that just made me remember, I was in my room after school that day when suddenly on the news I saw what was going on with the twin towers. I went downstairs to my mom and we watched the news together until my dad came home from work.

I remember I was in the car on the way to school (11th grade, I think) when I heard about the 9/11 attacks…it was all everybody could talk about that day, and even on the other side of the world in Australia, it was obvious many people were very worried, particularly the day after when our newspaper declared ominously that it could very well be the start of a 3rd world war!

I think you’re right though that people tend to remember where they were when there’s big news, particularly if it’s bad news or something distressing. I even remember the positioning of my bedroom furniture the day my dad came over to tell me my grandfather had died. I guess when something like that happens you can’t help but remember everything about the situation because it has such an impact on you.

Oh, and slightly OT, but you were allowed to listen to the radio in class at school? Awesome!

i was in malmö and hanging out with a bunch of other people, having fun at aqvakul? or whatever it is called. i remember hearing people talk about it a bit but i have difficulties understanding swedish, so i didn’t really understand what had happened until i returned to denmark, and then i was completely in shock.

i think its impressive how these things have such a huge affect on our lives without us really knowing why. I know exactly where I was, who I was with, the weather, the time, everything. I can remember details about that day years ago but ask me what I was doing last week….i’m at a blank.

I was a “computer room” at the dorms when I red about two soldiers being kidnapped on the north border. It was last day of school so my parents were supposed to com and get me and all my stuff and they said they are going the long way because missles are falling in the north. I didn’t think anything of tht because missled fell there once in a while.. and then the war started (2006)

I remember I was at home eating in the kitchen when the news broke on 9/11. Such a sad day.. :´(
