Comparing Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles to Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Saga.

CHARACTERS:
The Vampire Chronicles: Intelligent, sophisticated, gorgeous, complex.
The Twilight Saga: Intelligent, sophisticated, gorgeous.

I prefer the VC characters.

STORYLINE:
The Vampire Chronicles: Complex and philosophical.
The Twilight Saga: Well it’s a love story and that’s it.

I prefer the VC storyline.

MYTHOLOGY:
The Vampire Chronicles: Very interesting and detailed.
The Twilight Saga: The werewolves have a mythology but the vampires don’t. Pretty disappointing.

I prefer the VC mythology.

GIFTS:
The Vampire Chronicles: The regular stuff plus a few extra.
The Twilight Saga: The regular stuff plus a lot more.

I prefer the TS gifts.

SETTING:
The Vampire Chronicles: From ancient Rome to present day Los Angeles.
The Twilight Saga: From Forks to Rome.

I prefer the VC setting.

I do like Twilight. I actually do. I guess it’s pretty obvious that I think it’s no way near as great as The Vampire Chronicles though. Those are the best books about vampires I’ve so far read in my life. Don’t think you know the story just because you’ve seen the movies. The books are far greater than that sorry attempt of a movie Queen of the Damned and the pretty good but nowhere near as great as the book Interview With The Vampire. I guess something that obviously makes The Vampire Chronicles storyline richer and more complex is the fact that it consists of many more books than The Twilight Saga. And the fact that it’s written for an adult audience (at least in my 26 year old eyes) makes it better as well.

With all this said I still look forward to seeing New Moon. Like I said, I do like Twilight. It’s just not the best vampire story out there.

Which is your favourite vampire story?

I can’t compare the two right now, since I only read the Twilight Saga. I’ve been wanting to read the Vampire Chronicles. Some of my online friends said it’s a nice series about vampires.

The Twilight Saga’s a good series though. But it could have been a lot better — sometimes I think it’s too…bland, considering that the story is only told in only one person’s point of view, and we have no idea what on earth is happening to the other side (New Moon, for example).

I really hated new moon-its so fucking disgustingly boring and terrible even twilight was better.. i did enjoy the books but new moon so dissapointed me.. :(
i cannot compare it to vampire chronciles though.. although i read a anne rice comment about twilight/true blood saying she understands the attraction women sees in vampires that represent older more experienced sexier men that is somewhat a stabile figure in a world where women these days have to behave like men. :) i think its a good analyze hehe.. Anne rice is a fan of true blood which I really love!

I LOVE TWILIGHT SAGA (: Most awesome book, I’ve read. I havent heard of Vampire Chronicles but I want to read it. I’m a bookworm (:
Yep. Korean music is common to have english in it. I don’t see any problems with that. Do YOU have problems with korean singing english? Huh?

I’m not to into the Twilight Series, but maybe I should try the Vampire Chronicles. I’m into mythical creatures and all so I like things of that nature. I like books more anyway, to read and create your own imagination and spin on the characters.

I agree, TS is definitely not the best vampire story. The emphasis on the love story and less on character development kinda ruins it for me. I could probably come up with a better vampire story than that. In fact I’m thinking about doing that. They DO seem to put more behind the werewolf part, which makes that part much more interesting to me. (Plus I think werewolves are awesome)

I agree. I like Twilight, but I think all the 10 and 40 year old girls fangirling over Edward kind of took things out of proportion. She’s a mediocre writer who got lucky. It’s good, but not great. She focuses more on feeding on girls’ dreams and wishes for their perfect guy than on actual story and plot. I really don’t think any vampire book I’ve read compares to Anne Rice. She puts so much more lore and detail and effort into her stories, they are classics. I’m glad someone else understands! :D

I like Vampire Chronicles and Twilight is okay. However, I think it’s really hard to compare them too much when you look at the audiences that they are being targeted for. VC is written for a more mature audience in mind whereas Twilight was written for a younger audience.

However, I must say that my favorite vampire series at the moment is the Anita Blake series. However, it doesn’t really focus on just vampires. It has a wide selection of paranormal creepy-crawlies.

:) :D :P 8) ;)    :? :| :/ :O :( :´( >:( >:) more »
