“Life is not lost by dying; life is lost minute by minute, day by dragging day, in all the thousand small uncaring ways”.

And I’m wasting away my life.

Shop ’til you drop

Today I went to Linköping with my family to shop since pretty much every store in Sweden hold major sales between Christmas and New Years Eve. Of course I’ll show you pictures of what I bought. I did buy more than what’s shown in these photos but I thought that you might not be interested in seeing my lint roller and the other boring household stuff I bought. I do show you my new dish rags but they’re cool dish rags so that doesn’t count! ;)

Two pairs of ear rings and a necklace.

Christmas presents

Christmas came and went. As usual I celebrated with my parents and my three siblings. All our relatives live in the northern Sweden and we live in the south so on Christmas it’s just us. I don’t mind since we’re a big family just the six of us. I made a photo blog post with tons of pictures from Christmas. If you don’t want to look at all thirty-eight of them you can ignore that and just look at my gifts in this entry. So here’s what I got:

xmas presents
1: Sodastream, must mix and red berries mix.
2: Vegetable chopper.
3: Milk foamer.

Jobs I would suck at

You must all have thought about what professions you’d be good at. But have you thought about which you’d completely suck at? I know a couple of things I could never work with.

1. The army. This could never work because of so many reasons. First of all the fact that I’m a pacifist obviously would be a major problem. Another problem is that I have a hard time taking orders. Not to mention my physical unfitness, fear of dangers and dying and the fact that I’m overly sensitive. I’d be the worst soldier ever.

2. Anything involving children is a big No-no. By children I mean anyone under the age of eighteen. Small children I just don’t like and too many teenagers are too much trouble. I was a nice teenager who respected my teachers but I have vivid memories of how some of my classmates weren’t so nice and didn’t have any respect whatsoever for the grown ups in school. I wouldn’t want to be one of those grown ups.

3. Nursing isn’t for me either. It must be wonderful to help people but I wouldn’t want to be the one having to… touch all those strangers. I like to keep my distance to people. The fact that I have to turn my face away when I see operations on TV doesn’t help either. Blood I can handle but not deep wounds and cuts.

4. Speaking of cuts, I could never work in the meat industry, butchering animals or preparing the meat. Actually not because of the grossness factor (which is huge) but because I don’t eat meat and the very thought of killing an animal or packaging their flesh is repulsing. This goes against my ethical beliefs.

5. Cooking is something I not for my sake but for the sake of the rest of the world should stay away from. Since I have no interest in cooking I haven’t exactly worked on improving my skills within that area. I mostly succeed if I follow a recipe but don’t ask me to be creative or improvise. The only way to describe my cooking improvisations is epic fail.

So, which jobs do you think you’re not suited for?

Shopping

These are a couple of the things I’ve bought this month.

make-up
Eye shadows in pink and purple, pink matching nail polish and some glitter eye shadow top coat stuff I got for free. The colours are kinda off in the photo. The first one isn’t white, it’s light pink and the two last ones aren’t black and grey but different shades of purple.

Iris

This is one of my all time favourite songs. It’s in my top five of songs I love and have been so since I first heard it back in 1998. Besides the song being great the lead singer also happens to be drop dead gorgeous. Just look at him! Wow.

Goo Goo Dolls – Iris

And I’d give up forever to touch you
Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You’re the closest to heaven that I’ll ever be
And I don’t want to go home right now

And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
Cause sooner or later it’s over
I just don’t want to miss you tonight

And I don’t want the world to see me
Cause I don’t think that they’d understand
When everything’s made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And you can’t fight the tears that ain’t coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies
Yeah you bleed just to know your alive

And I don’t want the world to see me
Cause I don’t think that they’d understand
When everything’s made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And I don’t want the world to see me
Cause I don’t think that they’d understand
When everything’s made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am

On the phone

I looked at old phone bills and was shocked when I realized how much time I spend on the phone. This is the number of hours I’ve called out from my phone this year:

January: 18 hours
February: 25 hours
March: 25 hours
April: 25 hours
May: 25 hours
June: 33 hours
July: 20 hours
August: 23 hours
September: 16 hours
October: 11 hours
November: 11 hours

Mind you, I also receive phone calls so add at least another ten hours every month. Funny thing is I actually only talk on length with three people. Everyone else I only call to make plans, ask something etc and those calls never last more than a few minutes.

Notice that since September the number of phone hours have sunk drastically. That’s because in late August I got a new job located near my parents house so now mum and I have lunch together five days a week, making it unnecessary for me to call her every day like I used to.

Now you must think my phone bills is extreme but actually it’s not. I don’t have a home phone, only a cell, with a extremely good phone subscription. I call the entire regular phone net and everyone with the same cell phone operator (like my dad and two of my siblings) for free for a very decent sum every month.

Haha I just realized I sounded exactly like someone who’s blogging for money, writing about how many hours I spend on the phone only to then moving onto “recommending” my phone operator which I’m so pleased with. Well I’m not blogging for money so I’m not going to recommend anything.

Now I’m going to cook Maria’s fish stew. If you’re able to read the recipe, which is written in Swedish, you should really try it out. It’s delicious!

College, snow and a black Christmas tree. It’s life.

What happened to blogging often? I don’t know. It’s not like I’ve been busy or anything. On the contrary I took three days off from work this week. I guess I’ve just been lazy because I do have things to blog about and I even have finished posts waiting to be published. Oh well, here I am now.

So I got into several web design courses at colleges all over Sweden. Since I’ll study online and don’t have to move I applied to colleges all over the country. Out of the courses I got into one called “CSS-based web design” at Umeå University was the one I felt was most interesting and therefore chose. I’m glad I’ll study online since Umeå is located in the northern part of Sweden which I’ve swore never to live in ever again.

Today it’s been snowing all day so it’s white outside to say the last. That’s really nice since it probably means Christmas will be white but I would love for the snow to melt away as soon as Christmas is over. Rain may be unpleasant and not beautiful like snow but at least when it’s raining you’re not freezing cold.

Aaaaanyway, moving on! I’ll end this post with a couple of photos.

black christmas tree
A green Christmas tree just don’t suit the colour scheme of my home so I bought a black one. Wonderful, isn’t it?

Make-up faux pas

You know what’s about the fugliest make-up faux pas there is? When people use foundation/powder/whatever in a colour different from their skin but only apply it to their face without blending it down the neck. Some use a darker shade than their skin to look tanned while alternative kids use a chalk white colour to look pale. I don’t know which is worse. Probably the chalk white actually since the difference between the face and skin tends to be so extreme when white make-up is used. Even if you apply it to your neck no one is that pale and it will look unnatural. Dita Von Teese the queen of pale may have a fair complexion but not even she is chalk white. I’m ashamed to say that I’ve also done this mistake back in high school. Now many years later I can honestly say that it’s one of the worst make-up crimes I’ve ever done myself guilty of.

What do you think is the fugliest make-up faux-pas and what’s the worst make-up mistake you’ve done?

Oh and by the way I got a comment about the layout saying that the menu is off and the www link button is located under the start link button. For me the menu looks good in Opera, IE, Firefox, Safari and Chrome but maybe it doesn’t work correctly in a different version of one of those browsers. I dont know. Could be the hack I used to make the layout look exactly like I wanted it to in Opera, Safari and Chrome. Different browsers, different standards you know. If the menu is off in your browser please let me know.

Oh and this is the last chance to exchange Christmas cards with me! I’m buying the cards tomorrow so if you’re interested in this e-mail me at quende[at]spray.se today.
