Make-up faux pas

You know what’s about the fugliest make-up faux pas there is? When people use foundation/powder/whatever in a colour different from their skin but only apply it to their face without blending it down the neck. Some use a darker shade than their skin to look tanned while alternative kids use a chalk white colour to look pale. I don’t know which is worse. Probably the chalk white actually since the difference between the face and skin tends to be so extreme when white make-up is used. Even if you apply it to your neck no one is that pale and it will look unnatural. Dita Von Teese the queen of pale may have a fair complexion but not even she is chalk white. I’m ashamed to say that I’ve also done this mistake back in high school. Now many years later I can honestly say that it’s one of the worst make-up crimes I’ve ever done myself guilty of.

What do you think is the fugliest make-up faux-pas and what’s the worst make-up mistake you’ve done?

Oh and by the way I got a comment about the layout saying that the menu is off and the www link button is located under the start link button. For me the menu looks good in Opera, IE, Firefox, Safari and Chrome but maybe it doesn’t work correctly in a different version of one of those browsers. I dont know. Could be the hack I used to make the layout look exactly like I wanted it to in Opera, Safari and Chrome. Different browsers, different standards you know. If the menu is off in your browser please let me know.

Oh and this is the last chance to exchange Christmas cards with me! I’m buying the cards tomorrow so if you’re interested in this e-mail me at quende[at]spray.se today.

  1. I agree that the whole foundation discoloration problem is a bad one. I remember a friend in junior high had the orange face problem. I worry that I will look like that when I put on my foundation. I try to take a mirror and look at the edges of my face but it looks fine to me. I would be so embarrassed if I looked like that.

I don’t really wear much makeup so I don’t know what my worst mistake might be. I do remember when I was in elementary school (grade 1 maybe?) and I tried on some of mom’s lipstick one morning before school. Apparently it was noticeable because one of the older kids was like, “She’s wearing makeup.” That was slightly embarrassing and I never did it since.

Your layout looks fine to me. Also, I sent you an email about exchanging cards but never heard back so I don’t know if you got my email or not.

  2. I knew a girl in school that wore a much darker foundation on her face and it was obvious. Nobody seemed to care though. I’m pretty open minded when it comes to makeup so I think I’d have to agree with you about that being the worst thing you could do with it.

The Alps are beautiful too! That’s actually one of the places on my bucket list/fantasy world travel itinerary. I found this pic:

  3. What’s really bad is when the person wears so much makeup that you can literally see it flaking and chipping off. It’s supposed to look natural, right? That definitely gives it away, lol.

  4. I’ve never worn foundation, so I don’t know what it’s like but I do agree that too much or a different shade looks bad. My personal worst make up mistake is back a few years ago when I wore black lipstick all the time haha ;)
As for the layouts, I don’t know, I just make them as I look at stuff online or if I get extremely bored (usually at school because I don’t have Photoshop at home) 8)

  5. I totally agree with what you just said about the two different shades for those who trying to look tanned or goth…although am digging some of the goth vampire look – on some it look good while on others…*ewe*

Totally luvin ya new layout and it looks perfectly fine to me but than gain am using the latest version of FireFox…so it all looks good hun! Great job!

Thanx for the comment hun and have a good one!

  6. yea it stops playing in theatres around me in a few days so might not get to see it at all until it comes out on DVD and on demand.great new lay by the way.i made 2 new lays for my other sites

  7. i agree with you, my worst crimes is too much blush, eyeshadow that is not a neutral color-purple, blue, pink, etc. and black eyeshadow that fade away during the day so i just look dirty haha.
too much eyeliner. i think these days i much prefer neutral, i think many ppl look good in colored eyeshadow though just not me..:)

  8. Hahahah! That is the worst makeup faux pa ever! And I must say my worst was commiting it. :P I’m extremly pale, and I thought this one foundation was great for me. Until my best friend told me it was a billion shades off. :P Silly me

  9. What lovely colors to your new layout! Love it dear!! hehe :D

I think I committed that already because I forgot to apply in my neck area! But it’s okay because I already have a fair complexion so I think it wasn’t noticeable haha! Hmm I can’t think of another makeup faux… haha! Maybe it’s because I don’t use makeup much. haha I guess too much blush on or really bad makeup XD hahaa

  10. lol, i don’t know how many times i have seen girls with the white face & brown neck goin on! i just giggle, it’s funny.

i don’t really wear makeup anymore, i only wore eyeliner before. but i did get some blush once to cover a mysterious mark on my neck  & it was a shade lighter than me so i looked like a leopard or somethin :P .

your site navi looks good in my firefox 3.5.5 i believe the version is. they could just stop updating every few weeks & let everyone rest for a bit!! :|

  11. Yeah, our hippie shop is brilliant…
but yeah… a surprising amount of music comes out of Wales (I think it’s because there’s nothing else to do other than farm or play rugby) and yes, who doesn’t love the Manic Street Preachers?
I have had A LOT of make up faux pas.. I had quite bad acne for a while, and my 13 year old brain thought it would be a good idea to load my face with foundation which of course made it worse… and put it this way, I have burnt all my school photos.
I’m still in school and have seen thousands of girls with the wrong shade of foundation on. Perhaps they think of it as an alternative to fake tan? I don’t know…

  12. Foundation discoloration is hard to look at. Of course, unless that was the intent. Like… if you’re into the geisha/doll look. For me, the worst make up mistakes are when these little Mansonite/emo/mallgoth kids use that cheap Hallowe’en make up as their make up, and just glob it on. My worst mistake was trying to do the Marilyn Manson circa Mechanical Animals look, and ending up more like a bad drag queen. :/

  13. Oh my gosh. I used to know a girl who did that when I was in middle school. It would drive me and my mom crazy cuz she was a pretty girl caking up her face with that stuff and other crap.

My worst faux pa is just smearing bright blue on my eyelids with no kind of blending or anything. It’s like really?!

    Layout good good to me.

  14. Your layout is ok with me here, maybe they are just using other version of IE or Mozilla. Well, back to the main topic. I also hated it when I saw a tan people putting white make up, it doesn’t fit on them, even they flip.Lol. So what to do then? is to apply make up that is naturally fit in you.

Btw added you on twitter sis: twitter.com/superjeniffer08

  15. My friend used to wear lighter foundation than her skin cause she wanted to look fairer and you could see the foundation line along her jaw. It looked terrible and I felt uncomfortable telling her about it but at least she improved on her make up.
The biggest make up mistake I ever made was use glitter eyeshadow…I don’t know what the hell I was thinking and it was years ago. I don’t wear much make up now.

The layout looks really great! I love the background :)
I’ve sent you an email about the site information that I promised to send a while ago. I used the email in this blog, your contact page isn’t working.

  16. It really bugs me when I see a girl who would otherwise be pretty wearing too-dark foundation or caked on makeup. Another thing that bothers me is girls with bleached blonde hair, fake tans, and too much makeup. I see so many girls like that and they all look identical, like plastic Barbie dolls. Why would someone want to look exactly like someone else? I don’t understand it.

I’ve never worn much makeup myself. These days I only wear eye makeup and lip gloss when I’m going out somewhere nice or need to look presentable. I rarely ever wear foundation. If I do, I just put a little bit on lightly.

The new layout looks great! The menu isn’t off for me. I love the colors and the background image.

I’m sending you some candy for Christmas, so I’ll send you a card with it. You don’t have to send me one in return, though, since I’m replying to this two days late. :)

  17. I love how the bar is attached to the top (:

Anyway, to the topic.. the ugliest make up is wen girls/women put foundation that’s darker than their skin tone, they usually put LOTS of it plus they stop at the bottom of the chin and make the face look like a must, they also don’t put powder over foundation and it makes the whole face look like it’s leeking down or something. Also I don’t lke when people put full eye make up and leave they eyebrows super bushy. Or too much mascara that it gets on the eyelids and they leave it there..

  18. My worst makeup mistake was when I was a preteen and thought that the more foundation I put on my face, the better I would look. I looked like an iced birthday cake. *shudder* I also didn’t know the magic of eyeliner at that time either, and continued to remain in the dark about it until I was about 15. Now I tan, throw on some concealer, eyeshadow and eyeliner, with maybe some lip gloss and I’m good to go. Makeup only takes like five minutes now, as opposed to the half-hour it used to. O_o

  19. *nods head* I totally agree about the foundation thing. It just looks really weird, and about as far from natural as you can get. I remember someone once saying that make-up should enhance what’s already there, not alter it – I still believe that’s true. As for other fugly make-up crimes, one thing that tends to make me cringe is seeing women with lip liner that’s so obvious and darker than the lipstick. It looks horrible, and always makes me think they look like a hooker or a trashy guest on Jerry Springer, lol. And in general I think that anything that doesn’t look like it could be natural isn’t a good look. I tend to think, “yes, but what do you REALLY look like?” It’s almost like you wonder what they’re trying to hide, lol. So silly!

  20. I actually love the super pale foundation look on certain goth girls and guys — However, if it’s not blended properly down their necks, then I agree that it’s a terrible, terrible look.

If I wear powder on my face, I always double check in the bright light of the bathroom to make sure it’s not to heavy — And if it is, I grab a towel and blend most of it away. There have been a few times where I’ve forgotten to double check it before leaving the house, though, and when I get home see myself in the mirror, it’s a major ‘FFS’ moment, LOL. :P

  21. I don’t know about the make up thing as I don’t wear any and don’t really pay attention to girls who wear make up but I hate when I can see that a girl hasn’t blended her make up right. I remember one girl in high school who was tanned – looked like a crisp golden turkey on Thanksgiving and wore the lightest make up she could find. Like…UGGGGGH. We called her Powderpuff because it was just that bad. She looked like a porcelin doll when she wore her make up – it’s just horrid. Or girls who cake on ten pounds of eye liner that it looks like somebody socked them in the face with a baseball bat? Eek.
