Hello world, I’m back! Did you miss me a lot? Wait, don’t tell me, of course you did! ^_^

Like I stated in my previous blog post the reason to my absence has been school. I’ve done an extreme amount of studying. I wish I could say I now don’t have to think that much about school for a while but unfortunately I still have tons of school work to do. I need to start working on two final project works and be done with them this month. I have to create a site for my CSS class and make a movie for my Flash class.

This week I made my very first Flash movie ever. Have a look at it here and then praise my excellent movie making skills. I’m expecting an Oscar and worldwide recognition for this work. It’s safe to say this will grant me my own star on Hollywood Walk of Fame. What did you say? You don’t think I’m serious? HELLO did you not watch the movie?! Don’t come here and tell me this isn’t better than Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and every movie Quention Tarantino ever made combined! XD

Oh well, moving on.

I’ve set up a new computer desk setup. I connected my new laptop to a external keyboard, screen, mouse and speakers. This was always the plan since there’s nothing wrong with the accessories from my old computer. Besides, I couldn’t possibly go from using a 20″ screen to a 15″ one.

Speaking of computers. I’ve bought a Wacom tablet. I decided that I needed one not just for fun but also for school. I plan on continuing with computer studies so a Wacom tablet will come in handy. Not to mention how many possibilities this opens up for what I now can do with my site. I’m not good at creating computer graphics. Actually I’ve never really created digital graphics from scratch before I made my Flash movie. Drawing I’m good at though and now I can make drawings on the computer. Awesome! Unfortunately it turned out to be slightly (a lot) harder than I thought it would be. It will take a lot of practice to get the hang of it. The tablet costed me 1700 SEK + 100 SEK shipping (€ 175 + 10) ($ 238 + 14). It was available in two Swedish online shops. In one of them it costed 2000 SEK (€205) ($ 280) and in the other 2100 (€ 216) ($ 294). The last store had discounts for students though so I got it cheaper. You gotta love student discounts. <3

Here’s my desk with the new setup and the Wacom tablet. .

Today I decided to do a EFIT which is a photo project in which you take one photo an hour during one day. I haven’t been a member of the project for years but after seeing Maria do a EFIT I felt like doing one as well. So here it is. This is what I did today (yesterday really since it’s 2 AM here right now).

efit dishes
11 AM – Woke up 10:30 AM, started doing the dishes almost immediately.

 efit gender roles
12 AM – Went shopping with my mum and sisters. At the toy store I saw something that upset me.
So the box for this cleaning wagon is pink with a photo of a girl on it and on top of that the text on the box states “4-Girlz”. I doubt it’s possible to make it more gender specific than this. Good thing teaching girls that household work is their choir from a young age. Cement it into their minds so that one day they’ll make good wives. Allow me to puke. This is not cool. Not cool at all.

 efit fanatica
1 PM – Standing outside my friends shop waiting for it to open.

 efit shopping
2 PM – This is what I bought today: a scarf and shoelaces.

 efit me
3 PM – Sunshine through my window.

 efit view
4 PM – Sarah + my not too exciting view.

 efit outside
5 PM – Outside my house waiting for my dad to drop off some stuff. The snow has melted a lot in the past few days.

 cleaning
6 PM – Cleaning.

 efit cooking
7 PM – Cooking.

efit wacom bamboo fun pen and touch
8 PM – The box for my new Wacom tablet.

efit latte macchiato with whipped cream
9 PM – Latte Macchiato with whipped cream.

 efit wacom video tutorial
10 PM – Looking at a video tutorial about my Wacom tablet. It was awful. The instructions were read slooowly and told in such a way it seemed the video was aimed at kids or mentally disabled.

I spent the last two hours of the day browsing E-bay so there’s no photos from the rest of the night. And that’s all folks!

I can understand maybe the “Easy Bake Oven” because cooking is enjoyable and not really that gender specific (even though its aimed at little girls)… but cleaning supplies?

I don’t think we need to worry too much though, she’ll play with it for 5 seconds and realize cleaning isn’t fun.

Is that mashed potatoes you’re making?

Replying to your comment (sorry, I checked your site before discovering your comment)

I could do the custom bracelet but I’d have to see about getting some iridescent paint to make the white beads pearly. Unless that doesn’t matter to you.

  3. admin admin says:

    Angie – Yep, it’s mashed potatoes! :)

Heck, the only thing girly I prolly ever played with at that age were fricken Barbies. Other than that, I’d say I grew up a gamer ^_^

OOOOOOHHHHH HOW I SO ENVY YOU! I want to get a Wacom! Maybe then I wouldn’t be so assed on drawing and would actually draw more. It sucks for me drawing by hand, taking a picture with it on my digi cam (it’s my cheap alternative to a scanner as I do not have a scanner), outlining and colouring it in Photoshop after. It takes me a while, so a Wacom should help me no problem if I ever get one. That is hopefully I can find one affordable for me here. Maybe I will get one for my birthday here in May.

haha those tutorials are always aimed at people who aren’t really using it for much.. they market those things towards scrapbooking soccer moms and people who need to electronically sign things instead of looking at the major populous of people who do lots of pretty art with them X_x

i love your tablet its huge! mine is a little one but its the same.. bamboo fun. if you want good tutorials its best not to look at the stuff they pack with it and check out websites for the specific stuff you are planning to do with the tablet. they usually have better tutorials suited to your purpose.

At least you took the schoolwork seriously! I am here taking a year off and sitting on my ass half of the time and just wasting my days :p

I watched your movie, it’s good for a first time I think! :D

And ooo A wacom! I’ve got one too since a few years and I had stopped using it in the past 2 years but I started experimenting with it again these past months. It’s great fun when you get used to it :)

And I love it when you post photos!

*hides* I’ve been kind-of AWOL myself lately because of the new uni semester starting…though I daresay you’ve done a lot more work since you’ve been gone than I have!

I love your new computer set-up! It’s so organized and uncluttered. And yay for your new drawing tablet! Good luck with getting the hang of it…I used one once at school many years ago and I found it really hard to control! I had thought it would be just like writing with a pen, but it wasn’t anywhere near that easy at all. :( Luckily my lack of artistic talent was enough of a reason to not succumb to buying one. ;)

Ah, the toy industry has always been rather backwards like that…it seems that the majority of toys for children past the 2-4 age range can be classified as “boy toys” or “girl toys”. It’s certainly not doing anything to challenge gender roles, I agree. For once I would like to see a toy ironing set in blue and green with a little boy on the box, or a set of toy cars/trucks in unisex colours with a group of little girls on the box. *sigh*

I can only think that learning Flash is very satisfying. As compared to other forms of art, Flash seems the most boundless. That’s both in terms of creation and appeal; some may not appreciate paintings, poetry, crafts, or comics, but who doesn’t like Flash? xD

As far as the cleaning wagon is concerned, it certainly isn’t the toy’s job to assign social roles. Nonetheless, marketing and morality don’t necessarily commingle. Most marketers would concur with the product’s design, simply because it’ll rake in a little more cash than if it were marketed gender neutral; when parent’s see PINK and GIRL, they BUY. It sticks out a little more, at least to the subconscious buyer (most of them!).

I like your desk setup. I kind of wish I had room for my desktop computer in my apartment. I’ve been using my laptop for probably the last year or more. I don’t even really have a deck area lol.

  10. Luna Luna says:

I envy your new desktop setup. Your Wacom tablet is so gorgeous! Been wanting one for so long but I lack the money. :? :/ :( I hope you can post here some of your creations or doodles!

I’ve watched the movie that you’ve created. It’s so cool. We had a class on Flash before and I created a Flash movie too before. I just forgot what it was about. T__T I liek your movie. So cute! :3 Talking pink bunneh!!! *u*

Glad you’re back to blogging! *3*

P.S: I loooove your mug! And I followed you on Twitter. I’m nineisforever.

Forgot my link. ;_; ~sorry for the double post~ :D

Good to see you have a tablet:) anyway it takes time to get into it, hehe it’s not super easy if you never used one. and its definetly not the same drawing real life as drawing on tablet. im actually better with tablet than in real life, problaly i draw more with that one and thats the reason!
anyway how big is it? it look almost a4! mine is a5 and I think its enough for me. :)

  13. maria maria says:

also youtube is great for tutorials in photoshop and painter, i think you get painter with wacom tablets so install it. its excellent program.:)

I love the idea of taking a photo an hour, definitely something I might have to try. And your mug is amazing

  15. Shaina Shaina says:

Loading the move now… it may take a while.

Wacom tablets are so cool! I’m glad you have one. Can’t wait to see all you make with it. I think I may spend my extra money this summer on one for myself. I’ve always wanted one.

It’s sad but a lot of kid’s toys are still teaching dangerous gender roles… hell, every time I go to Wal-Mart I look at the section for boys (guns, army men, etc) and girls (easy bake, barbies, dress-up) and think “wow”… still no common ground. Beautiful.

Kinda funny… since I used to be best friends with a boy when I was little… and we always found plenty of games we both loved. So where is the section for both boys AND girls…?

  16. admin admin says:

maria – Själva ritytan är 217 mm x 137 mm så den är snarare A5 än A4. Är storlek medium.

  17. Ivy Ivy says:

Oh yey! Your tablet is here already! How is it harder to draw? :O I thought it should make everything easier. :\ But I hope you figure it out soon and show us your amazing drawings!

I hate doing the dishes. :( It makes my hands all rough and ugly. The thought of it as a chore, ick! :(

  18. Julie Julie says:

Your flash movie is funny. Pink bunny says hi and the person is all freaked out. Nice.

  19. Mihoriel Mihoriel says:

Your setup for your computer is just brilliant and I’m so envious that you have a tablet. With the toy for girls, it’s anti-feminist however being raised 100% Mexican learning that I’m in training to be a housewife, it doesn’t surprise me that something like this would one day exist. It’s sad that is what society believes young ladies are supposed to do to this day but I’m glad & aware that society is changing and I’m no longer destined to just be a housewife.

:) :D :P 8) ;)    :? :| :/ :O :( >:( >:) more »
