I like the 18th century because of the beautiful clothes, furniture and architecture. Everything fashionable back then was absolutely gorgeous. The 19th century had a lot of beautiful stuff as well but the 17th century is my favourite century. I also like gothic things and the combination of that and old fashioned elegance is something you’ll find in a lot of things about me. My brand new black chandelier for example. :) Take a look at the new photos of my home if you haven’t yet by the way!

So, on the subject of elegant gothic things, I’ve had my eyes on this picture frame from IKEA for a while.

Then yesterday I realized, hey wait a minute, it doesn’t necessarily have to be a picture frame when I suddenly came to think of the fact that I have a mirror with a very similar frame. Problem was it was gold coloured and I don’t like gold nor does it suit the colour scheme of my home. Notice how I say that it was gold coloured? It’s not any more because last night I painted it black. It’s a 25×20 cm frame but it took me six god damn hours to paint it! Why is that you might wonder? Well let’s just say the paint I used for painting my kitchen walls really isn’t intended for painting plastic. One coat of paint wasn’t enough. Nor two or three or four. Actually I don’t even know how many coats it took. It wasn’t the easiest thing to paint either because of all the details, hence the six hours. It was worth it though since it turned out great. The gold visible around the edge of the mirror on the after photo is the back of the frame reflected in the mirror which sits a bit loose. That’s not visible to the naked eye though, only on photo, so that’s not a problem. And I know that I need to clean the mirror. :P Anyway, here’s it is, before and after.

While on the subject of gothic elegance I want to show you something I’ve been drooling over for the past few weeks. Can you say fucking gorgeous?! O_O Unfortunately it’s way out of my price range but one can dream, eh?

This might not be gothic but it’s very elegant. And it’s on it’s way to me after I won it on a e-bay auction a couple of days ago.

pink cameo necklace

I also want these matching earrings but that’ll have to wait until I get money the 25th. They’re from the same E-bay store as I bought the necklace from.

So is this other cameo necklace which I also want.

  1. Angie Angie says:

Drooling over the cameo jewelry! Beautiful color combinations and I effing  metal filigree designs like that. I’m going to try to make some stuff like that once I get the materials I need.

  2. Mimi Mimi says:

You know I think that a little bit of gold peeking through the black paint would look kind of neat. You know just in certain areas to make it look old and distressed? Either way though it does look a lot better than the original. :)

  3. tiff k tiff k says:

Wow!! I LOVE THE SET and how creative you are! That’s a nice paint job! There are bits of gold somewhere near the mirror but it gives a nice effect too!

As to your question in your comment, I also have a hard time to “turn my life around”. Eating less was pretty hard because I’ve been trying to do it for years and I also have a sweet tooth and I think I’m veering away from my diet lately XD But I guess you really need something, a realization. I was inspired by my friend who interviewed one of my best friends how she lost weight just by eating healthy. I mean the living proof was right in front of my eyes and I really wanted to see if it worked. My best friend has lost probably 20 pounds or more! Really she’s an inspiration for me. And whenever I get hungry, I guess I just drink a lot of water or eat fruits. That’s what i do. And try to refrain from buying sweets in the grocery :D

Good luck dear!! I also love the 18th century by the way! :D

  4. April April says:

I call them vintage! I’m such a fan of vintage pieces (in clothing, usually) but I never thought those furniture are still available by this time. I love the boarder design of the mirrors and the accessories! OMG, they are to love!

  5. Cecilie Cecilie says:

Love the mirror. It looks great after you painted it:) Good job!

The cameo pieces are so pretty. Which seller is it from?

  6. Jennifer Jennifer says:

Wow great job! Look how crafty you are! :)

I love your design taste. I am terrrrible with decorating and design.

  7. Veronica Veronica says:

Wow those items are absolutely beautiful! I agree that the 17th century had a fashion and design era like no other. It would be nice to see more things like that nowadays in modern stuff!

  8. Cierrah Cierrah says:

You might have to come redo my house! That turned out great, and you saved money by using something you already had, and turned into something that fits your home. I love watching those do it yourself TV shows because they do things like this, and it’s inspiring! :)

  9. maria maria says:

Hehe i’ve done the complete opposite of what you did! i have the ikea frame but I’ve painted it gold haha!
the black rococoo is to modern for me:)

  10. Zanna Zanna says:

    OMG vilken sexig byra!

Spegeln blev jattefin ju ^_^ Snyggt gjort!

  11. Mallory Mallory says:

OMFG, that was pure genius, painting that ol’ ugly gold frame black … And it’s AMAZING how awesome it looks in black compared to gold! O_O; You wouldn’t think upon first glance that a bit of paint could change an item so completely … Or, rather, a LOT of paint, haha. :P

I also like how you didn’t go out and buy special paint for the project, you just used what you already had and worked with it! That’s even more crafty and clever … Not to mention more wise, since you’re saving money. :)

    And hey, I just made the connection that you have similar frames all over your layout, haha! Awesome. x3;

And oooh, that little black dresser is so gorgeous … I’m gonna guess how much it is before I click on it, hmmm … At least $500 Canadian dollars. Let’s see if I was right …

AHAHAH! OMG, I was exactly right — 3,499 KR in Canadian dollars is about $495! Hopefully I calculated the exchange correctly, though, haha.

And yay, you decided to buy a similar necklace to the cross shaped one! Stellar.

  12. Tiffany Tiffany says:

Wow I love the mirror! I also took a look at the pictures of your home (wow that sounds stalker-ish lol) and I love your black chandler and all your books!! Especially the ones at a diagonal angle above your laptop :D I may have to steal that idea one day :P

T__T Absolutely love the necklace you bought and the other ones from the same ebay user. I need to shop online more often :P

  13. Grace Grace says:

(reply to your comment) Leather is really gross when you think of it like that. Cow skin…ew. Maybe I’ll stick with my faux leather :D Yeah, Catholics disagree with sex before marriage…so I would have expected his parents not to let me stay the night…although Callum is 18. :|

You have a really pretty house! You’ve obviously spent a lot of time decorating. Looks like a lot of thought has gone into the colour and style! I love the slanted book shelf, very original :)

  14. Beara Beara says:

Ahhh.. I’m always jealous of your knick knacks! :) And I agree, 17th 18th centuries were the best.

I should have the site up in a few days :D

  15. I love how you transformed that mirror. I think it looks much more elegant in black. The dresser is gorgeous too!
I’ve always loved cameos but have never actually owned one. I especially love the black and white ones.

  16. Aly Aly says:

The mirror looks great, Angelica! My goodness though, the patience you must have…I can’t imagine myself painting all those coats for 6 whole hours (but then again, I’m very lazy). Anyway, it paid off because it looks fabulous! :)

That sideboard cupboard is seriously nice; I’d love something like that, though probably in dark wood instead. You’re right though, decent furniture is so depressingly expensive! Hence why the furniture I bought recently was all cheap flat-packed stuff (save my new chair, which I swiped from my mum’s work – can’t believe they were going to dump it!).

I like the jewellery too, though it’s not really my style. It’s definitely elegant though, and I love the detailing around the edges. I hope you’re able to get the matching earrings when you get paid! :)

  17. Your mirror is gorgeous. I’ve always wanted a mirror like that… can never find one, though. I’m going to wait until I own the house I’m living in to transform it into my own little gothic haven.

It saddens me that there’s no Starbucks where you live. Their coffee is wonderful. Send me an e-mail with your address, and I will send you a couple bags of the beans on my next pay day. Everyone should have a little Starbucks in their life. LOL.

  18. Rose Rose says:

i love the mirror and the jewerly.it loks old fashioned and so pretty

  19. Kristine Kristine says:

All of it is beautiful, especially that cupboard and jewelry!!

  20. Ria Ria says:

I really like cameo necklaces too. It’s funny you like that frame it very much matches your site right now. I like it too.

  21. Shaina Shaina says:

That dresser is AMAZING. *mouth hangs open and a bit of drool forms in the corner of mouth*

  22. Malin Malin says:

Ser ut som det hårda arbetet lönade sig! Spegeln blev skitsnygg! :D

Det dära cameohalsbandet vill jag också ha! Åh så fint!

  23. Kimeh Kimeh says:

Wow, it reminds me of the mirror mirror on the wall!

  24. kitty kitty says:

Did I already tell you that you have a great taste? ;)
At first I looked at the pictures before reading and I thought “wtf wo buys gold stuff for their home” It looks so awesome in black though!
So does this piece of forneture, too bad it is expensive.

Love the pedant yo got from e-bay. Here is a link of some stuff you might like! http://www.etsy.com/shop/SerendipityLicious?section_id=6888678

  25. Anna Anna says:

    Great mirror!
BTW, I’ve changed domains. I’m now only a blog, since obviously I wasn’t able to manage the whole site, because of lack of time and motivation. So now if you still want to be affies I’d love to :) . I’ve only just started blogging in english but please come visit!

Annars så finns min svenska blogg på http://www.annatjernstrom.webb.se :)

  26. Deanna Deanna says:

That stuff looks great. I really like your finished mirror. You did a wonderful job. And I think I have a necklace similar to the one you got. I think it has the lady on it. It was my grandmothers.

  27. Ashley Ashley says:

I ADORE cameo jewelry, it’s so beautiful. Actually your new mirror, which looks great, reminds me of a cameo necklace (but without the person). That dresser or desk is gorgeous, I’d be drooling over it too.

  28. Karin Karin says:

  29. Alyssa Alyssa says:

I’ve always been a big fan of cameo jewelry, so I’m in love with that matching cameo set you posted! And you did a great job on the mirror! It’s so cool, and I actually like it better than the picture frame because it looks more authentic.

  30. stepherz stepherz says:

I love the mirror. It looks much better black. The gold color looked kind of…. I’m not sure. Like it was trying to hard to be elegant.

I LOVE cameos! I find them to be so pretty and I love that pink rose color. :)

:) :D :P 8) ;)    :? :| :/ :O :( >:( >:) more »
