Layout up since November 1 2011.

I’ve lacked inspiration to design a new layout for the longest time in my history as a web designer. I’ve had a site since 2000 and not ever before has a layout stayed up for so long as the last one, breaking the record with it’s one year and ten months online! I got back into the groove by designing journal skins at DeviantART and all of a sudden one day I was struck by inspiration and decided Whirlwind needed a new look. The layout structure is very similar to the last one but the code is more advanced and almost everything has been upgraded to something better and prettier. CSS 3 does amazing things!

If you’re using Internet Explorer 7 the site will look completely messed up. If you’re using Internet Explorer 8 it won’t look as pretty as it’s supposed to. If you’re using Internet Explorer 9 everything but the custom fonts will work. This is not because I’m a bad web designer. IE just happens to ignore coding standards and even the newest version isn’t as good as other browsers. So, if you’re having issues with my site I suggest you update to the latest version of Explorer or do as I did years ago, switch to a better browser.

I started web designing in 1999 when I was fifteen but didn’t put a site online until 2000. I had sites with various names until somewhere around 2004 when I settled on the name Whirlwind. That’s the title of one of my favourite songs by one of my favourite bands; Broder Daniel. In February 2005 I bought my first domain name; “whirlwind.nu”. I chose a nu-address since nu means “now” in Swedish. In 2010 I bought the domain name whirlwind.se which for the time being redirects here. At some point I may make the .se address the main one and the .nu the secondary.

From the beginning and for many years Whirlwind was written in Swedish but in the spring of 2006 I made a site in English as well as a side project. I kept two sites for about a year and a half until I got sick of updating two pages with two blogs and since I was more active at English Whirlwind I decided to merge my two sites into one English.

I code in Notepad++ and make/edit graphics in Photoshop CS3. Whirlwind is valid XHTML 1.0 Strict and valid CSS 3.0.

This is my personal site and I don’t earn any money whatsoever from it. You’ll never have to suspect that things I write are sponsored posts and not my actual opinions since I’m strongly against sponsored posts as hidden advertising. I don’t do paid linking and the sites I link I link because I like them – not because I’m paid to have them there.

The Whirlwind Archive contains most of my old layouts. All layouts for English Whirlwind can be seen here and for Swedish Whirlwind every one dating from 2002 (before my site even was called Whirlwind) to 2007 are on display. This means my entire personal site history but the ten very first layouts I made are in this archive. Be warned: most of the old stuff isn’t what I’d call brilliant and the earliest stuff is downright horrible but like anyone doing something for a long period of time I’ve evolved and changed style a couple of times.
