I like the 18th century because of the beautiful clothes, furniture and architecture. Everything fashionable back then was absolutely gorgeous. The 19th century had a lot of beautiful stuff as well but the 17th century is my favourite century. I also like gothic things and the combination of that and old fashioned elegance is something you’ll find in a lot of things about me. My brand new black chandelier for example. Take a look at the new photos of my home if you haven’t yet by the way!

So, on the subject of elegant gothic things, I’ve had my eyes on this picture frame from IKEA for a while.

Link

Then yesterday I realized, hey wait a minute, it doesn’t necessarily have to be a picture frame when I suddenly came to think of the fact that I have a mirror with a very similar frame. Problem was it was gold coloured and I don’t like gold nor does it suit the colour scheme of my home. Notice how I say that it was gold coloured? It’s not any more because last night I painted it black. It’s a 25×20 cm frame but it took me six god damn hours to paint it! Why is that you might wonder? Well let’s just say the paint I used for painting my kitchen walls really isn’t intended for painting plastic. One coat of paint wasn’t enough. Nor two or three or four. Actually I don’t even know how many coats it took. It wasn’t the easiest thing to paint either because of all the details, hence the six hours. It was worth it though since it turned out great. The gold visible around the edge of the mirror on the after photo is the back of the frame reflected in the mirror which sits a bit loose. That’s not visible to the naked eye though, only on photo, so that’s not a problem. And I know that I need to clean the mirror. Anyway, here’s it is, before and after.

While on the subject of gothic elegance I want to show you something I’ve been drooling over for the past few weeks. Can you say fucking gorgeous?! O_O Unfortunately it’s way out of my price range but one can dream, eh?

This might not be gothic but it’s very elegant. And it’s on it’s way to me after I won it on a e-bay auction a couple of days ago.

I also want these matching earrings but that’ll have to wait until I get money the 25th. They’re from the same E-bay store as I bought the necklace from.

So is this other cameo necklace which I also want.

I miss the pink hair I had back in 2006 but I won’t dye it that colour again. Extreme colours needs so much pre-bleaching that it just ruins my hair.

Speaking of hair colours. After almost two years of dying my hair black I’m getting a bit sick of it. I think black suits me best and I love the colour but I like change. Since I’ve been growing my hair long for almost two years now and plan on growing it even longer I can’t change my hair style so what has to change is the colour. There’s a problem though. My hair is about as dark as it gets so dying it another colour really won’t do much good. My reddish blonde roots will change colour but that’s it. There’s of course bleach but there’s no way in hell I’m doing that to my hair again. That leaves the option to grow out my natural hair colour and then dye it but that would take like three years. Oh well I guess I’ll have to stick with black. Or perhaps I could just buy some clip-in hair extension of a interesting colour and wear once in a while. That way at least part of my hair could be pink again – without bleach.

Make-up bag. I’m not into Hello Kitty and I love my current make-up bag. There’s a hole in it though so I was in desperate need of a new one. It looks good, besides the Hello Kitty head. I bought it at Kappahl, I think.

Is this bra rock n’ roll or what? If I was a groupie (which I’d totally would be if I was hot enough) this would be what I would be wearing to rock concerts. I bought this at whatever place I bought the make-up bag.

You know what’s about the fugliest make-up faux pas there is? When people use foundation/powder/whatever in a colour different from their skin but only apply it to their face without blending it down the neck. Some use a darker shade than their skin to look tanned while alternative kids use a chalk white colour to look pale. I don’t know which is worse. Probably the chalk white actually since the difference between the face and skin tends to be so extreme when white make-up is used. Even if you apply it to your neck no one is that pale and it will look unnatural. Dita Von Teese the queen of pale may have a fair complexion but not even she is chalk white. I’m ashamed to say that I’ve also done this mistake back in high school. Now many years later I can honestly say that it’s one of the worst make-up crimes I’ve ever done myself guilty of.

What do you think is the fugliest make-up faux-pas and what’s the worst make-up mistake you’ve done?

Oh and by the way I got a comment about the layout saying that the menu is off and the www link button is located under the start link button. For me the menu looks good in Opera, IE, Firefox, Safari and Chrome but maybe it doesn’t work correctly in a different version of one of those browsers. I dont know. Could be the hack I used to make the layout look exactly like I wanted it to in Opera, Safari and Chrome. Different browsers, different standards you know. If the menu is off in your browser please let me know.

Oh and this is the last chance to exchange Christmas cards with me! I’m buying the cards tomorrow so if you’re interested in this e-mail me at quende[at]spray.se today.

Now I’m going to be extremely girlie and ask you what kind of make-up you use? If you use any that is.

I basically have three looks.

1. Mascara and silver glitter either on my eyelids or under my eyes.

2. Mascara, black eye liner drawn into wings (Cleopatra style but not as heavy) and silver glitter under my eyes.

3. Mascara, silver eye shadow and silver glitter under my eyes.

Some days when I feel worse than usual about my complexion I use mineral make-up but I’m not really fond of anything covering my entire face. I used to use foundation and powder in high school but since such products tend to clog the pores I completely stopped using it when I was around eighteen. That’s why I don’t feel the need to wear mineral make-up every day. I bought it this summer which means that I went without any such products for about eight years. I got used to my skin the way it is and kind of accepted my flaws.

Something I definitely couldn’t go without is mascara. You see I have long, thick, curled beautiful eyelashes which makes my eyes my very best feature. There’s one problem though. I’m a natural redhead which means I’m very pale and have blonde eyelashes and brows which makes them practically invisible. Not pretty! I dye my eyebrows dark brown and use black mascara on my eyelashes. I could dye my lashes but I don’t see the use since I already use black mascara every day.

And speaking of something entirely different. I hate Twitter advertising! Several of the people I follow on Twitter have succumbed to this evil. If I hear another tweet starting with “Don’t let the dentist fool you…” I might just shoot myself. As if pay per post disguised as genuine opinions isn’t bad enough.

If you just like me isn’t for sale you should visit www.adfreeblog.org and get one of these:

I wish there was a badge like this for Twitter as well. Perhaps I should create one. Hm…

I ordered some stuff from Yves Rocher which arrived yesterday. I’ve planned on ordering stuff from there for quite a while but I waited until I got a new customer offer which they send out once in a while. Basically you get some stuff for free if you’re a new customer or haven’t ordered anything from there for a year. I got a mascara and three mini products for free.

So this is what I ordered:

1. Raspberry shower gel
2. Blackberry shower gel
3. Edelweiss hand cream
4. Passion flower hair and body wash (free mini product)
5. Raspberry perfume
6. Blackberry perfume
7. Night cream (free mini product)
8. Anti-wrinkle cream (free mini product)
9. Purple nail polish
10. Mascara (free)
11. Eye liner

It was nice to get free face creams since I’ve recently started applying face cream before I go to bed. I may look young now but I want to make sure I still look young in five years! Yes Milla, I’m getting oooold!

I know most people don’t like long blog entries but since I almost never write things this long please bear with me. And quite frankly I think that my longer blog posts about subjects I’m passionate about are more interesting than my short every day entries.

I’ve blogged about it before but I’m gonna blog about it again. Why do people think dressing alternatively is dressing like a teenager? I realize it’s more common for teenagers to dress more extravagant and that it’s a phase for many. I can’t say that that’s not the case with me because no one can be sure of how they’ll dress in twenty years. If it is a phase it’s one that’s lasted for a very long time though.

It annoys me. That people think I should “grow up” because I have a different taste than they have. Shouldn’t I as everyone else be able to wear what I like and feel comfortable in? If I dressed differently I wouldn’t be myself. Sure I don’t sport skull patterned skirts every day. It’s not odd seeing me in light blue jeans and a pink top. And when I dress more alternatively I don’t think I look that weird. I buy most of my clothes at regular shops, not in punk stores (Hello! I live in a small town!) and when I wear an all black outfit I stick out more than others wearing the same outfit because of my black hair and piercings. Much of my clothes could be worn by anyone really. It’s all in the details and how I combine things.

Like I’ve told you before my dad doesn’t like the way I dress. I however think he should be proud of the fact that I don’t let what others think affect me. It takes guts to stick out. Especially since I hate attention. And really, I could do so much worse things than dress a bit odd. I won’t change because my dad doesn’t approve of my style but of course it bothers me, a bit. Those times when he comments on the way I look negatively. Who wants to hear that from their father?

Something else that annoys me is the prejudices people have against everything different from the norm. How it’s assumed that goths and punks must be bad people because of the way they dress. I find that alternative people often are much nicer and more importantly have less prejudices than mainstream people. For example I’ve so far never met someone alternative who’s homophobic. If you differ from the norm of course you’re more likely to accept others who also differ from the norm. Still many people think people like my friends (and me) must be bad people. Rude, into drugs, violent.

Then there’s of course the lovely prejudice that people belonging to a “darker” subculture (goths for example) are suicidal basket cases. Just because you’re fascinated with graveyards it doesn’t mean you want to die. That’s like saying just because you’re into horror movies you want to kill people.

It’s also funny when articles are posted online about the “dangers” of different subcultures. Because oh dear god some emo chick committed suicide so obviously the music she listen to is to blame! And two goth girls killed someone and obviously music is to blame in that case as well! So what about all the people who doesn’t belong to a subculture and still kill themselves or others?
A funny fact is that a Beatles song actually inspired Charles Manson to make his followers commit multiple murders. Do people blame The Beatles for that? Of course not. That only happens when the music isn’t mainstream. Like the witch hunt of Marilyn Manson after Columbine. Which the killers didn’t even listen to by the way.

I’m not saying I don’t have prejudices as well. I have lots of them and like everyone else I’m more inclined to assume that people who reminds me of myself are smarter and more interesting than others. I’ve been proven wrong many, many times though so I always give everyone a chance. Unless they’re mean or rude that is. I think the world would be a much better place if everyone did so.

And to finish this I’ll leave you with a funny conversation from www.tjuvlyssnat.se which is a Swedish site where people post funny things they’ve overheard. I’ve translated it.

(Woman 45+ in pink dress passes by a guy 18+ wearing a Metallica t-shirt)
Woman: Fucking devil worshipper! God will send you to hell fucking satanist!
Guy (Calmly turns around): Are you a Christian?
Woman: Yes!
Guy: Then you know that god don’t judge people based on how they look and what music they listen to but on what they do and what you’re doing is a bigger sin than what I’m wearing and what I’m listening to. So it’s you that’s going to hell. Have a nice day!

Yeah, the satanist thing. I’ve been called a satanist as well. Because if you wear black you obviously must be a satanist. Which isn’t even the same thing as a devil worshipper by the way. Well I’m neither.

Anyway, I’ll stop here. Peace out.
