It’s 7 C outside and even though the sun isn’t shining it feels like spring. There’s still snow on the ground but it’s been melting for the past couple of days. Soon spring will be here for real and I’ve begun listening to 60s music like I do every spring. Hippie tunes suits my spring mood. I feel happy and alive and want to listen to music which expresses that.
Melanie Safka is a favourite. Her music is like travelling back in time to the 60s, a time which I would have loved to experience myself. But I was born in 1983 so obviously I didn’t. Instead I listen to Melanie’s music and imagine what it was like being a part of the hippie movement.
There’s still a left-wing movement but it’s not nearly as big as it was in the 60s. At least not here in Sweden. We have a right-wing government. That says it all. People today care more about money than about taking care of each other and the planet. It’s something which saddens and angers me deeply.
Here’s some hippie music for you. Listening to this song makes me feel peaceful.
Melanie Safka – Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)
This week has been a lot of fun but I didn’t take a single photo of any of the fun things, unfortunately. First of all Andreas turned 25 so we celebrated him at his mum’s place on Thursday. Friday we went to the pub with his brother and on Saturday we had a siblings + boyfriends night at my sisters place.
We watched the second (out of four) semifinal of Melodifestivalen (the melody festival) which is a song contest. The winner will represent Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest, a contest where 40+ European countries compete. ESC is a big deal in Europe and Melodifestivalen a big deal in Sweden. Since I think most of the music in Melodifestivalen suck I usually don’t watch this but I did this weekend since it was more about hanging out with my siblings than actually watching it. This year I may actually watch the final of Melodifestival though. At least I can laugh at the shitty music.
This entry won yesterdays semi final. I realize most of you don’t understand Swedish but you don’t really need to because the lyrics are nonsense. Sean Banan (Banan means Banana) is a humour artist. His songs aren’t meant to be taken serious and feels like they are aimed at kids. His stage shows are even more ridiculous than his songs. Just watch the video. If he’ll win the entire contest and represents Sweden in ESC I may have to migrate to another country because of the shame of living in one which thinks this is good music.
