It’s amazing how much happier I’ve become since I started studying. I can ignore all the things that used to bring me down because now at least I’m doing something to change my situation. I’m getting an education which will get me a job I like which will get me money which will get me more freedom. It’s a plan and I’m following it. It’s great to feel that I’m moving forward again rather than being stuck at some dead end job. Retail, I’m through with you!

I went to my old job (the thrift store) yesterday. The book section looked chaotic. Whoever’s in charge of it now clearly isn’t as good at organizing things as I am. It was a bit hard to see after spending hours and hours making that section of the store perfect. I had to remind myself that it’s not my problem since I don’t work there any more. Still, it made me kind of sad seeing something I’ve worked so hard with ruined.

Speaking of something entirely different… I’ve reorganized my showcase.

I often complain about how I hate living in a small town but never talk about what’s good about. Because believe it or not, it’s not all bad.

In Sweden housing shortage is a big problem. At least when it comes to affordable apartments. Young people with low incomes need patience, luck or connections to find a place to live with a decent rent. Many live with their parents, with friends or rent an apartment “second hand”. I don’t know how to translate it properly but I’ll try to explain. Person X’s name is on the lease but person X won’t be able to live in his/her apartment for a while, because he/she is travelling the world for a year or whatever. So while person X is away you rent the place – from person X, not the landlord. Since you have to move out whenever person X wants the apartment back this obviously isn’t the best way to live. Still it’s the way many young Swede’s live since it’s very hard to get your hands on a affordable apartment with a “first hand lease”.

It’s a lot easier in a small town though. For me it was ridiculously easy. The first apartment I was offered to have a look at is the apartment I live in today. In one day I found out there was a vacant apartment with a low rent, got the keys to have a look at it, saw and loved it and finally signed the lease. I realize I’ve been very lucky because this is not the way it usually goes.

Right now I’m looking for an apartment in Gothenburg, the second biggest city in Sweden. They e-mail me whenever there’s an apartment available that suits me. So I get an e-mail once in a while and always let them know I’m interested in whichever apartment’s available. About 3000 others do the same. Yep, that’s the usual number of people interested in each apartment available. No wonder I’m not having any luck because there’s no real queue system in Gothenburg. They just choose whoever “suits the apartment best”. Whoever has the highest income I bet. Because really, when you have 3000 people to choose from obviously you prefer a tenant with a good income rather than some poor student living off a student loan.

At least I have a home of my own. In the wrong place but it’s still a home, which I love. My apartment may be small but it was renovated in 2004 so everything is new and looks good. Not to mention that three out of four rooms are blue! My favourite colour when it comes to home decoration! The only things I’d like to change is the colour of the kitchen cupboards, the kitchen floor and the hallway floor. Other than that everything is perfect. It’s my home sweet home.

So, now that the layout is done I can focus on blogging again. Once I’ve started working on a new layout I don’t feel like blogging until I’m done with it. It’s not fun updating something old when you’re working on something new and better. And man, this is so much better than my previous layout!

Aaanyway…. I don’t really have anything to blog about since I’ve barely left my home besides going to my parents house or the grocery store for the past couple of weeks. I’m in between stuff right now. Worked my last day at the thrift store the day before Christmas and will start school the 18th. If I feel that I have the time I might work at the thrift store one day a week, just to get out a little since studying from home will make me even more of a recluse than I already am. Haha, I don’t mind much though. I could call people and hang out but I like being alone.

Going to continue with the laundry now but I leave you with some random photos.

Part of one of my closets. I laughed a bit when I realized how obvious it is which colours are my favourites. I barely ever dress in any other colours than black, white, grey, pink or red. Or blue, but only on jeans.

These are a couple of the things I’ve bought this month.

Eye shadows in pink and purple, pink matching nail polish and some glitter eye shadow top coat stuff I got for free. The colours are kinda off in the photo. The first one isn’t white, it’s light pink and the two last ones aren’t black and grey but different shades of purple.

During the three years I’ve lived in this apartment my interior decoration have changed a lot. The room I had in my parents house was very much the room of a teenager even though I was twenty-three and when I moved to my very first home of my own I brought with me not all but some aspects of that room. Comparing photos of my home from 2006 and 2009 I realize how much my style has matured. Here follows a comparison of my flat then and now. And if you want to see more photos of my home check out the pictures I took yesterday as well.

I don’t get why so many people have so messy homes. I really don’t because keeping your home organized is so easy. All you have to do is follow the simple rule: once you’ve used something, put it back where it belongs. This of course means that everything needs to be put at the same place every time. That’s good because if you do so you never have to wonder where on earth you placed something.

That’s pretty much the reason to why my home look the way it does. Everything has a place of it’s own and I don’t leave anything just lying around. Easy as a pie! Try it!

My blog is under a porn spam attack. The WP anti-spam plugin I used was great but unfortunately it blocked a couple of regular commenters as well so I decided not to use it anymore. Perhaps it wasn’t such a good idea.

I bought a couch bed at the second hand store I work at. It’s black, from IKEA and costed me 200 SEK (19€) (28$). I donated my old couch to the second hand store and my bed is now stored in my basement storage room until dad takes it to the dump. Of course having to put the bed sheets in a closet every morning and then re-making the bed every night is a bit annoying. On the other hand one couch bed is better than both a couch and a bed. At least when you live in a apartment as small as mine. 28 square meters really isn’t a lot.

I need to dye my hair. Look at these roots. And look at the rest of the poser photos I took of myself today.

I’ve noticed that when people show photograps of their homes they barely ever show the bathroom. I realize it’s a pretty boring room but just because no one else post such photos I will.

Decoration wise I’ve given up on my bathroom. There’s just so much stuff on such a small space, which makes it look really messy even if it’s not. Some custom made shelves would probaby make it look better but I can’t afford that so I’ve just pretty much given up on the idea of ever making it look nice.

It’s really such a big room with so much space!

For the past few days I’ve had this extreme energy. No, not energy but rather motivation. Motivation to do things. I’ve been cleaning and organizing my home non-stop and quite frankly my home was in desperate need of that.

During the two weeks I was sick with phneumonia I barely did any cleaning. Just the dishes every few days and obviously putting away stuff after I’ve used them, like I always do. That doesn’t sound too bad but the major problem was the cat hair. Dust and cat hair everywhere! Even if my home wasn’t messy it was dirty and I who take such pride in my nice home was actually ashamed of how it looked.

When I was done with the cleaning I started to organize things. It’s amazing how many small projects you can find if you look really hard.

During this time I’ve also come up with like ten blog topics I plan to use in a near future. Instead of blogging three times a day I write several blog posts the days when I have inspiration and publish them one by one during the days when I have no clue what to write about.
