Isn’t flame comments funny? I just found two of those in a old blog post I wrote a year ago. Read the blog and then the last two comments from Mr “Wtfbbq”. Lol?

www.whirlwind.nu/2009/09/28/usa-isnt-the-world

That wasn’t what I was going to write about. I was just going to write a short update on what I’ve been up to this week. For the past few days I’ve been studying political history and I’m not quite as overwhelmed by school as I was this Monday when I read about the three assignments in three subjects that I need to finish in three weeks. My reaction reading about the hundreds of pages I have to read, the essays I have to write and the 3D graphic I need to create was something along the lines OH MY FUCKING GOD WHAT THE FUCK JESUS CHRIST. Of course everything felt a bit more overwhelming before I had opened the books. I’ve still only began studying one of the three subjects since I’m going to focus on one at a time, but getting somewhere in at least one of the three has calmed me down. If I can handle political history I should be able to handle 3D graphics and IT as well.

Studying is actually what I’m doing tonight. I just took a short break to write this post and should get back to the Swedish union movement after WW1 now. It’s very interesting, reading about how the working class of Sweden first got organized, formed unions and finally got into a political power position.

Time flies. Summer came, stayed for a while and is now about to leave again. I’ve been busy living, doing the usual things but in the warmth of the green and blue season. I think I’m back to blogging now that summer is over but don’t take my word for it. After all I’ve made such promises for months now without getting more than a maximum of six posts up every month. Anyway, we’ll see what happens. Moving on! :)

I turned 27 the 29th of July and I promised I’d show you photos of what I got so here we go. Besides these things I also got money.

Rug which fit my kitchen perfectly.

Books: Drömmarnas flod (River of Dreams) by Gay Courter and Alltid Amber (Forever Amber) by Kathleen Winsor.

I wanted a cake with strawberries so my family made me one. Strawberries is a must when your birthday is in the summer. :)

Another lovely thing that happened this summer was the trip to Stockholm I did and the cruise I went on. The 4th of August I took the train up to Stockholm to visit my friend Milla and on the 6th I met up with my family for a one night cruise to Finland. You can look at the photos here.

As you can see the Happenings gallery is up and running again. It’s my photo blog where photos of the things I do will end up. That means everything from parties to walks in the nature. Photos of the latest stuff I bought and such will still be shown here in the blog.

Other than that today is a big day because it’s my first day of school this term. This fall I’ll study 3D modelling, Graphic design for the web, Information Technology and Swedish working class history. The first three classes are more or less related to web design but the last one is purely for fun. Contrary to most people I find politics very interesting so I’m really looking forward to this class. Studying graphics will be great as well since I’m ok at the coding part of web design but suck when it comes to creating graphics.

Anyway, that’s all for now. I want to finish this with thanking those who stick with me and my blog even though I so rarely update it nowadays. Lots of love to you.

It’s 2 PM and I’m at my parent house. For the first time in days I’ve woken up at a somewhat decent time. By decent time I mean 1 PM compared to the regular 4 PM. This whole having nothing to do during the entire summer sure has changed my sleeping pattern. When I don’t need to go to bed before 12 AM I simply don’t and yesterday for example I stayed up until approximately 7 AM. It’s a very bad habit that’ll have to change in about a month when school starts.

Oh yeah, I didn’t tell you. I got into several uni classes this fall so I’ll continue my studies. I’ve accepted four 7,5 point (full time studies is 30 points) courses but I’m still a back-up to a couple more which I hope I’ll get into after the second acceptance answer. Since you can apply to a maximum of twenty courses people are bound to get into more courses than they need and therefore give up their spot in some to backups like me. Even though I was stupid and forgot to apply in time and therefore only could get in at all as a backup I still got into more courses than I needed and had to turn two down. So, I’m at least hoping for the one I’m backup number two on which happen to be what I most want to study of all the twenty I applied to. Surely two people who got in will turn it down.

I’m ending this with photos of some early birthday gifts I got from my friend Milla. My birthday isn’t until the 29th but I got the gifts when Milla was in town which doesn’t happen that often since she lives some 30 (european) miles away.

Every spring I become restless. As nature wakes up after the long sleep of winter so do I and as I’m waking up I’m filled with all this energy. Not just energy really but ideas as well. Ideas of things to do, places to see and generally just a thousand ways to change my life. I’m a hippie at heart. A real bohemian actually. And that’s the side of me that takes over every spring. All of a sudden everything I want to do and everything that feels important are these really crazy ideas of changing my life completely. Like moving to a cabin in the woods, travel Europe in a hippie van, live at a cheap apartment hotel in Paris and write a book or go to Australia to pick fruit for a year.

I suppose most people would find my dreams unrealistic but I can’t help being a dreamer. Life should be a remarkable adventure but people (including me) tend to settle for the comfortable and easy attainable lifestyle which is OK but not the life of our dreams. I mean, my life isn’t bad. Just average. I don’t like average. Lots of people say that you shouldn’t dream too big because in the end life is always average and the sooner you realize that the better. Excuse me but what the fuck? NO, it doesn’t have to be like that! My life won’t be like that. One day I will do something out of the ordinary. One day my life will be a remarkable adventure. I have to believe it can be because that’s what keeps me up when my life becomes too much of a grey routine. What would we be without our dreams and what would life be like if we gave up just because what we want isn’t easy attainable?

Getting all deep and melancholic again. It’s weird the things spring does to me. Part of me become really sad and longing for something more while another part of me is overjoyed by the simple beauty of the season. Luckily most of the time I’m overjoyed as I let the sun warm my face, stroll over meadows of spring flowers and just enjoy the simple pleasures of life. Even a day like this when the rain is pouring down I’m quite happy because during months and months of snow I’ve really missed rain.

Speaking of something else. I’ll really try to blog more often. I think I’ll have more time for it now considering I’ve finished two uni classes and currently is failing the last one. I’ve totally given up on the JavaScript class. There’s just no way in hell I’ll pass it so I’m not even trying any more. Perhaps I would have passed it if I had lectures to go to where someone explained everything in a easy to grasp manner but I do all the studying online by myself and that isn’t working for this class. Obviously this makes me feel like a epic failure but I’ve come to terms with it and try to think of the other two classes which I did pass instead. Out of three possible grades this term I’ll end up with one of each for the three classes I’ve taken. Talk about imbalance in performance. I’m not surprised though since I’ve never been a straight A student and since the first time I got grades they’ve been all over the spectrum. From the highest to the lowest and very much depending on whether I like a subject or not. I do like JavaScript though but unfortunately I’m having a hard time understanding it. That’s a first. So far in my life I’ve never failed in something I’ve actually liked and wanted to learn. Oh well, it is as it is and like I said, I’ve come to terms with it. It’s not the end of the world.

I’ll end this post with a recent photo of myself which I really like.

Hello there mateys!

Guess who’s back? That’s right, the most fabulous, the extremely amazing, the one and only… ME!

If you’re following me on Twitter you already know the reason to my absence but for the rest of you, one word: school. Yes, unfortunately I haven’t been absent because of amazing adventures but rather because I’ve been studying, studying and then studying some more. I’m now done with my two very first university courses ever. Yay for that! I made a (ugly) site for my CSS class which you can look at here and a really god damn crappy movie for my Flash class which you can view here. I will keep the site I made for my CSS class but I will change the layout. The current one sucks so bad but this assignment was about code and not design so I just focused on incorporating all the codes my teacher wanted us to use and then some more just to shine. So, code-wise it’s excellent. My first semantically correct layout ever. That’s what I’ll try to do with Whirlwind next, make it semantically correct because right now semantically it’s a complete mess. The list of my books on the site isn’t complete yet by the way. There’s some fifty more to be listed. Most of my antique (19th and early 20th century) books that is.

Anyway, moving on! I got some great news the other day. I got a job at this years Hultsfred festival! If you don’t know what that is, it’s one of Sweden’s biggest rock festivals with 20 000 – 30 000 visitors every year which, that’s right, takes place in my home town. Living here sucks big time but once a year it’s really great! So, I got a job as a stagehand at the Hawaii stage. That’s the biggest stage (where obviously the biggest bands play) and I’ll work backstage! Can you say absolutely fucking amazing?! This is the job I wanted and this is the job I got! Talk about unbelievably good luck considering there’s many different jobs at the festival. I think I got it because of the fact that I’ve worked backstage at the Hawaii stage before, back in 2008. I loved that job so that’s why I wanted to do it again and now I get to!

To even things out and make sure my life isn’t too good of course something bad had to happen to balance things out. So, my external hard drive crashed. Actually it didn’t just crash, I think it short circuit or something because there was a spark, a poof and then my apartment went pitch black. The worst thing is that since the HDD was connected to my (brand new) laptop it damaged that one as well. The DVI socket to be exact, which means that I now can’t connect my external screen to the laptop. I hope the warranty covers this because I need to be able to use my 20″ screen. That’s what I’m used to so the 15″ one on the laptop really isn’t enough. I wouldn’t even have bought a laptop if it wasn’t for the fact that it’s possible to connect a external monitor to it.

Speaking of computer stuff, I bought two new domains. www.whirlwind.se and a domain with my full name, which I’m not going to write here since I don’t want people who google my full name to find my site. Doesn’t make that big a difference really since I’m not exactly hard to find but still, at least it’s a little harder to find me now than it would be if my full name was written somewhere on the site. I don’t mind people I know visiting my site nor strangers. It’s those people I don’t know, that don’t know me but know of me that I don’t want here. Basically people who aren’t my friends or acquaintances but know who I am who just visit to snoop around.

I got a interesting mail by the way, from a company that wanted to take over whirlwind.se. I said thanks, but no thanks, only if you pay me a couple of hundred dollars. They weren’t interested which didn’t surprise me. I kind of expected them not wanting to pay that much for it but that’s fine because I don’t really want to sell it. I would never let go of it for less than a couple of hundred dollars. I now own whirlwind.nu and whirlwind.se, which besides .com are the most common top domains in Sweden. That’s great. Now I only need .com as well but that one’s taken.

Last but not least I want to show you my new lamps. After buying the lamp I posted a photo of a few entries back I became obsessed with the idea of replacing all the lamps in my living room. There’s nothing wrong with my old lamps but I wanted something more elegant looking for the living room. My old lamp for the ceiling was moved to the hallway and the desk lamp and lamps for the window are now retired. I got all of those when I was thirteen or fourteen so it was about time. So here’s the lamps I bought. The first one is for the ceiling (obviously) and the second one will hang on the wall above my couch bed.

Hello world, I’m back! Did you miss me a lot? Wait, don’t tell me, of course you did! ^_^

Like I stated in my previous blog post the reason to my absence has been school. I’ve done an extreme amount of studying. I wish I could say I now don’t have to think that much about school for a while but unfortunately I still have tons of school work to do. I need to start working on two final project works and be done with them this month. I have to create a site for my CSS class and make a movie for my Flash class.

This week I made my very first Flash movie ever. Have a look at it here and then praise my excellent movie making skills. I’m expecting an Oscar and worldwide recognition for this work. It’s safe to say this will grant me my own star on Hollywood Walk of Fame. What did you say? You don’t think I’m serious? HELLO did you not watch the movie?! Don’t come here and tell me this isn’t better than Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and every movie Quention Tarantino ever made combined! XD

Oh well, moving on.

I’ve set up a new computer desk setup. I connected my new laptop to a external keyboard, screen, mouse and speakers. This was always the plan since there’s nothing wrong with the accessories from my old computer. Besides, I couldn’t possibly go from using a 20″ screen to a 15″ one.

Speaking of computers. I’ve bought a Wacom tablet. I decided that I needed one not just for fun but also for school. I plan on continuing with computer studies so a Wacom tablet will come in handy. Not to mention how many possibilities this opens up for what I now can do with my site. I’m not good at creating computer graphics. Actually I’ve never really created digital graphics from scratch before I made my Flash movie. Drawing I’m good at though and now I can make drawings on the computer. Awesome! Unfortunately it turned out to be slightly (a lot) harder than I thought it would be. It will take a lot of practice to get the hang of it. The tablet costed me 1700 SEK + 100 SEK shipping (€ 175 + 10) ($ 238 + 14). It was available in two Swedish online shops. In one of them it costed 2000 SEK (€205) ($ 280) and in the other 2100 (€ 216) ($ 294). The last store had discounts for students though so I got it cheaper. You gotta love student discounts. <3

Here’s my desk with the new setup and the Wacom tablet. .

Today I decided to do a EFIT which is a photo project in which you take one photo an hour during one day. I haven’t been a member of the project for years but after seeing Maria do a EFIT I felt like doing one as well. So here it is. This is what I did today (yesterday really since it’s 2 AM here right now).

Hello guys!

I just thought I’d let you know that no, I’m not dead. My lack of blogging and activity on the blog scene is due to dealing with a lot of school work. Expect me back some time next week.

I am still active on Twitter though. Follow me there if you like: http://twitter.com/cherienoir. Yeah, I made a new account. If you’ve been following my old one (B147CH) please follow my new one instead.

You know how happy I am about uni? I am happy and I’ve been happy ever since I found out I got into the classes I wanted to take. Now another feeling have replaced that initial happiness. Fear. Fear of failure.

And what caused this sudden change of feelings? Reading about my second assignment for my Animation with Flash class did. It’s nothing spectacular really. I just need to write a project description of the Flash movie I’ll be working on for this class. A minimum of two pages. I know that’s not a lot, I know I can write this, I know I’m very good with words, I know I’m very creative. Still I’m nervous because it’s been so long since I did something like this. Besides re-taking a high school maths class back in 2008 I haven’t studied for almost eight years. That’s a long time.

I feel stupid for being so nervous but I can’t help it. I guess it’s only natural to be nervous about going back to school after all this time. Oh well, if I could get a good grade in maths (which I hate) I can do this!

And then it hit me. For the first time in a long time I’m actually doing what I really want to do. Not just for the day, not just for a weekend but with my life. I’m doing something with my life that I truly want to do. When I really think about, actually for the first time.

You see high school doesn’t count, because even though here in Sweden you choose a major most of the courses you take are mandatory ones you haven’t chosen yourself and can’t get out of. The jobs I’ve had doesn’t count either since sure they’ve been all right but not what I want to spend my life doing. I want to work as a web designer and now I’m studying web design, moving towards that goal. For the first time in my life I’m actually doing exactly what I want to do. And it makes me feel oddly at ease. Right now I can ignore the fact that I hate the town I live in. I can ignore problems in my life. Because at least one piece has fallen into place. I’m moving forward and I’m kind of happy.

Uni is going well so far but I’m expecting it to get harder. So far I’m doing nothing but reading in my Flash Animation class and the first assignment in the CSS class is so easy it’s not even funny. Right now I fear that class will only involve things I already know. If that’s the case I guess it’s not too bad anyway. I’ll get a good grade and having studied this class I’ll be able to get into a more advanced one next semester. I reckon I continue with my studies this fall and right now I’m even considering studying through the summer as well. That will insure I have a income between June and August and I do need a income. If you live with your parents not having money for three months might not be fun but you can manage, living alone and not in a dorm though it’s absolutely necessary to have a income every month. I guess I could get financial aid of some kind during the summer but why not just keep studying? Besides that one maths class in 2008 I haven’t studied for eight years so I don’t think I’ll run out of motivation for a while.

Moving on, from a serious subject to a not so serious one.

Just looked at my little “to do list” for my site. I don’t think anyone but me understand much of it. And if you don’t speak Swedish you understand even less of it since I mix Swedish and English. It easily happens when it comes to site related matters since after all, my site is in English and so is all code but Swedish is still my first language. Just look at this confusing little list. Even I have trouble remembering what all this means when I haven’t looked at it for a while.

Anyway, this is the current list of things I need to fix on Whirlwind. Everything from looking into whether there is a way to use div tags within a Wordpress page (and with the help of div tags set up the gallery) to making another banner. I always have at least three things on my site related to do list. Whirlwind will never be “done”. There’s always something to fix, things to do better. Sometimes that bothers me but I know always striving to do better really is a good thing.

I don’t know what it is with me and my sleeping pattern. Since I quit my job I’ve fallen into this weird routine which is more of a total lack of any routine at all. Since I don’t have to get up in the morning, I don’t. I used to work until 2:30 PM but now most days I wake up later than that.

If I get to sleep without being disturbed I sleep for twelve hours straight. I’m not kidding. Obviously when I worked I never slept for that many hours a day since going to bed at 8 in the evening is a little bit too early. Now when I don’t work I go to bed late, sleep for twelve hours, wake up late and then repeat. Mostly at least. The thing is I sometimes try to set myself back to a normal day rhythm but even when I get up at a decent time I still stay up until at least 3 AM. Just because I can.

Besides, I’ve got a new lovely friend. Coffee. Not a new friend really. Me and coffee have been friends for many years but in the past few weeks we’ve become really good friends. When I’m tired but is too busy to sleep I drink coffee. I used to have one cup a day. Now I have a minimum of five but sometimes up to eight. And I’m not talking those little ridiculous cups with flower patterns that old ladies love, oh no I’m talking large mugs, each containing 2 dl.

I’ll try to get up at a decent time from now on though since yesterday was my first day of school. I do all my studying online but I still think it’s a good idea to get up around 12 PM, start my studying and then be done with it in the evening. So far it’s easy as a pie but I expect that will become more difficult pretty soon. At least when it comes to the Animation With Flash course. The CSS-based Web Design course seems really, really really easy. My first assignment is to create a XHTML document and a CSS document and set up things like background colour, font size etc. The very basics of CSS that is. Well that’s nice! This means I can spend most of my time studying Flash, which I contrary to CSS know nothing about.
