This summer me and my sisters went to the medieval week in Visby. Everything about that trip was perfect. The weather couldn’t have been better, the medieval week was wonderful as usual and Visby just happen to be my favourite place in the world. Total perfection.

One day we stood on the top of Galgberget (Gallow mountain) overlooking the city and the sea. The sun was shining and the view was amazing. It was such a perfect moment. I told my sisters that very moment would be what I’d miss and long for in the middle of the winter when everything was cold and grey.

Here I am almost four months later and when I think about what I miss about the summer that moment is what I think about. It’s a perfect summer memory. Actually that entire trip is one perfect summer memory. Breakfast on the cliffs overlooking the sea, watching the horizon as the sun set, walking through alleys full of roses and wading in the water looking for sea glass. I want to be there again. In those moments. I was so happy.

That’s why I love summer and hate winter. During the summer I’m happy and love life while I during the dark seasons become sad and annoyed at everything. I see no need whatsoever for the season to ever change. I don’t need that change because there’s nothing I like about the fall and winter. Winter depression is a terrible thing and it doesn’t matter that I know that once spring arrives I’ll be happy again because it doesn’t change anything. I still have to go through months of feeling like shit without being able to do anything about it.

The trip to Gotland with my sisters was great and the medieval week was wonderful as usual. We spent our days sightseeing, taking tons of photos. I’ve watched a sunset, walked along the beach, looked at ruins, shopped at the medieval fair and walked around in a medieval gown. We had ice cream at Sweden’s biggest ice cream parlor and delicous food at a restaurant. I’ve watched the view from a mountain and had breakfast on a cliff overlooking the sea. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect and the five star camping resort was everything I had expected and more. All in all the trip was perfect.

If you want to see all of the 81 photos I’ve uploaded you can do so here. If that’s a bit too many you can just look at a few goodies below. Enjoy!

Tomorrow me and my sisters are going to the medieval week in Visby. Visby is this wonderful medieval town on the island Gotland. The inner city is surrounded by a medieval wall and full of medieval houses and ruins. It’s my favourite place in the world (not that I’ve seen much of the world… but still) and this will be my fifth trip there in seven years.

The medieval week is a one week event similar to the renaissance fairs in USA. There’s a medieval fair, medieval pubs and restaurants, tournaments, concerts, plays, excibitions and so much more. And of course people dress up in medieval clothes. Me and my sisters will be wearing velvet dresses with long flowing sleeves. I’ll be wearing a blue one, Danielle a red and Nathalie a yellow. We’ll look absolutely amazing! I’ll make sure to get a photo of the three of us to post here when I get home.

This turned out to be a quite eventful summer. First the Hultsfred festival, then a cruise with my family and now the medieval week. If I can afford it I’ll go to Jämtland with my grandparents aswell.

In the middle of all this, five days ago to be exact, I also turned 26. It’s weird to think that I’ll be 30 in only four years because I still feel like 18. I guess I’m wiser than I was at that age but my lifestyle haven’t changed a lot. The only difference is that I now live alone and have my own income.

EDIT 4/8
In one hour I’m off to Visby! I’ll be back friday.

So it’s been ages since I last blogged. That’s because I’ve been sick and haven’t had the energy to do much besides lying on the couch, watching movies. I’ve been sick for more than a week and I’m still not well but screw that, I’m going to work tomorrow anyway. I just can’t stand another day at home. I’d rather sleep on a bed of nails than spend another day at home on the couch. I’m bored! It’s probably even more boring to read about so… change of subject!

Me and my sisters have decided that we’re going to the medieval week in Visby this summer. The medieval week is kind of like those renaissance fairs held in the U.S. There’s a fair, a medieval tournament and a lot of other things going on. And a lot of people – including me – dress up in medieval clothes. Visby is the perfect city for something like this because it’s the best preserved medieval city in Scandinavia and has been named a UNESCO World heritage site. The inner city is surrounded by a medieval wall and the city is full of old houses and ruins. It’s my favourite place in the world. Not that I’ve seen much of the world but still…

When I was looking at camping prices I was greatly annoyed by the discovery that my favourite camping no longer accept guests under the age of 25. Apparantly they think that anyone under 25 is a potential disturbance since young people are more likely to party and make a mess. That may be the case but not when it comes to all young people! Of course I can live at the camping since I’ll be 26 this summer but my sisters who are 21 and 18 can’t live there with me so this camping isn’t a option anymore. First of all they call themselves a family camping and that’s what we are – a family. Second of all we’re not there to party but to experience the culture and nature of Visby. And third – my 18 year old sister barely even drink alcohol. But oh no, all young people like to get drunk, party all night and disturb the other campers! Fucking bullshit…

There is another camping though. The problem is that it’s located 3 kilometers outside the city. That doesn’t sound far but compared to the other camping which is located 800 meters from the inner city it is. It’s also more expensive. Unfortunately we don’t have any other option since we can’t afford a hotel. At least it’s a really nice 5 star camping so I think it will be a great place to live, even though it’s a little too far from the city and a little too expensive.

Dagens ord: Lösnäsa
