I have these standing in one of the compartments of my book case. I did not intend to make it a vampire compartment but a few days after I placed the apple candle next to the Tru Blood bottle I realized that’s what it is. Because an apple is the symbol for Twilight and Tru Blood, well it’s True Blood.

When I was a teenager it bothered me that the actors depicting teenagers in TV-series always were in their twenties. A show I watched a bit was Dawson’s Creek (I’m not proud of it OK?! &gt_&lt) and at the beginning in 1998 they were all supposed to be 16. The youngest of the actors playing the leads was actually 20 and the oldest 27! So here’s a show I’m as a teenager is supposed to identify with but yet they put a 27 year old in it? All it did was create these weird ideals of how to look which obviously were impossible to follow for most teenagers.

Now though, more than ten years later, I look at this in a kind of different way… You see I still enjoy TV-series and movies set in a high school environment. I might be 26 and prefer to watch movies about people my age but I can still appreciate something set in that environment because well, been there done that. I can relate because once upon a time in a not too distant past I was a teenager myself.

Not much have changed in the casting of actors for these series and movies in the past ten years. I have changed though. Now I’m very happy to see someone aged 27 playing a 16 year old because for obvious reasons I prefer to look at 27 year old guys rather than 16 year old kids. Take Glee for example. The character Finn is 16 but the guy who plays Finn, well he’s 27, my age that is. And damn he’s hot! And don’t kill me now Twilight haters but I think Rob Pattison is hot. Well at least in his vampire make-up. So he plays a 17 year old but in actuality he’s 23, not that much younger than me. Great!

I still think they should try to hire actors who are around the age they portray for a more realistic feel but I’m not really complaining any more. I’m glad they did choose Rob Pattison rather than a real seventeen year old. ;)

Today I went to Linköping with my family to shop since pretty much every store in Sweden hold major sales between Christmas and New Years Eve. Of course I’ll show you pictures of what I bought. I did buy more than what’s shown in these photos but I thought that you might not be interested in seeing my lint roller and the other boring household stuff I bought. I do show you my new dish rags but they’re cool dish rags so that doesn’t count! ;)

Comparing Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles to Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Saga.

CHARACTERS:
The Vampire Chronicles: Intelligent, sophisticated, gorgeous, complex.
The Twilight Saga: Intelligent, sophisticated, gorgeous.

I prefer the VC characters.

STORYLINE:
The Vampire Chronicles: Complex and philosophical.
The Twilight Saga: Well it’s a love story and that’s it.

I prefer the VC storyline.

MYTHOLOGY:
The Vampire Chronicles: Very interesting and detailed.
The Twilight Saga: The werewolves have a mythology but the vampires don’t. Pretty disappointing.

I prefer the VC mythology.

GIFTS:
The Vampire Chronicles: The regular stuff plus a few extra.
The Twilight Saga: The regular stuff plus a lot more.

I prefer the TS gifts.

SETTING:
The Vampire Chronicles: From ancient Rome to present day Los Angeles.
The Twilight Saga: From Forks to Rome.

I prefer the VC setting.

I do like Twilight. I actually do. I guess it’s pretty obvious that I think it’s no way near as great as The Vampire Chronicles though. Those are the best books about vampires I’ve so far read in my life. Don’t think you know the story just because you’ve seen the movies. The books are far greater than that sorry attempt of a movie Queen of the Damned and the pretty good but nowhere near as great as the book Interview With The Vampire. I guess something that obviously makes The Vampire Chronicles storyline richer and more complex is the fact that it consists of many more books than The Twilight Saga. And the fact that it’s written for an adult audience (at least in my 26 year old eyes) makes it better as well.

With all this said I still look forward to seeing New Moon. Like I said, I do like Twilight. It’s just not the best vampire story out there.

Which is your favourite vampire story?

I finished the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer a couple of days ago. I liked the first book but as some of you have read in my previous post I compared it to Anne Rice and Twilight lost. The books got better though. Not as many parts of the books took place in the high school, the bad guys got thougher and everything in book tree of Breaking Dawn was pure awesomness. I don’t think the ending of book one was particularily exciting but the ending of Breaking Dawn was great!

Something that surprised me was that I actually found the love story interesting. I’m not a romantic person and I usually don’t read love stories but Bella and Edward made me feel for them. The emotions were described so vividly that I almost fell in love with Edward myself. Of course if they both had been human I probably wouldn’t have found it all that exciting. I’m a sucker for vampires. ;)

All in all, good books. I still would have prefered to read about people my age though. :P

Chelsie and Tawni are my newest affiliates and I’ve done a link exchange with Sarah. Go on and visit them all!

So I just finished the book “Twilight” by Stephenie Meyer and I feel that I should write something about it. Everbody else does so why not me aswell? ;)

I’ve heard a lot of good things about this book. Almost ever blog entry I’ve read about it has been praising it. So of course when I started reading it I had high expectations.

Where they met? I’m not sure. I mean, yeah it’s a good book no doubt about that. But I’m a fan of Anne Rice and I’m twenty-five years old. If I was a teenager who never had read Anne Rice I know that I’d looooved this books. But I’m not a teenager and I’m a huge Anne Rice fan.

For you oblivious to the genious of Anne Rice I’ll fill you in. She wrote “Interview with the vampire” and sevaral sequels about vampires. Her main characters are adults and the book is written for adults. Sure I read Anne Rice when I was a teenager but I think it’s different reading litterature for adults when you’re a teenager than litterature for teenagers when you’re grown up. For the same reason I’ve never been a huge fan of Harry Potter. I’m sure that I would have been if I had been a couple of years younger when I first read the books. Because you know as a eighteen year old it’s kind of hard relating to a character about seven years younger than you. And it’s the same thing with Twilight. I don’t want to read about high school students.

Wow, I really sound negative now but I’m not. Really. I like Twilight. It’s good and Edward Cullen sure sounds like something I’d sink my teeth into. ;) But, I would have apprechiated it more if it hadn’t been for Anne Rice and the fact that it’s a book aimed at teenagers.

Oh and don’t forget to look at the Halloween photos in my previous entry!
